Hyderabad: US-based IT company, ServiceNow, has been using organic and inorganic means to scale up its operations globally. The company has made 12 acquisitions in the last six years and continues to explore opportunities to acquire both companies and technologies.

Among the latest acquisitions, the company has acquired Appsee In-App Mobile Analytics Platform and R&D Talent on May 13 this year. Appsee, an Israel-based application analytics platform company will enable ServiceNow to further its mobile and web browser strategy by adding deep user analytics and in turn deliver an improved user interface for customers.

It acquired FriendlyData on October 10, 2018. This company makes it easy for non-technical users to ask quantitative questions in plain English and get fast results through direct answers or data visualisations. Service Now also acquired Parlo on May 3, 2018, whose natural language understanding engine enhances ServiceNow’s native AI capabilities across its Now Platform and products, making getting work done as easy as having a conversation. It further acquired VendorHawk on April 25, 2018, which optimises customer SaaS usage, provides transparency and supports digital transformation.

Sharing the acquisition strategy, Rao Surapaneni, VP of Engineering, ServiceNow, told Telangana Today, “A lot of acquisitions till now had been focusing on technology where we acquired teams where re-platform and deliver products and solutions to customers for seamless experience. We focus on customer experience and services while identifying the acquisition candidates.”

“We never rule out large acquisitions, globally. We continue to keep an eye in India for such opportunities. For us its ultimately, technology and team matters, if they can accelerate, they fit our bill,” Rao informed.

Digital solutions

On the use cases of the company’s offerings, he said, ServiceNow has helped several companies which had been taking part in the Smart City projects in Europe. With that experience, the company is now working with companies that are involved in the Smart City projects in India.

“We have one customer in India who is now productising their Smart City initiatives on ServiceNow,” he informed.

In the area of cyber security, the company has a broad portfolio of products that helps clients in securing their operations and security management. The company automates everything and makes the life of COOs and CIOs easy.

ServiceNow also has governance and regulatory products, which the financial institutions are deploying so that internal audit controls are up to the standards. This product is well suited in India. The company has recently rolled out a finance-based application that will help clients in financial operations-automate tasks, simplify and improve efficiency. More solutions are under development and soon they will be rolled out.

The company’s solutions also cater to the companies that are into e-commerce, which is a growing sector globally and more so in India. It also works with several startups via the company’s appstore.

Global operations

The company has 73 offices globally, employing 10,000 people. It has 10 development centres across the world.  It has tripled its workforce globally in the last two years. It has been growing at a rate of 35 per cent year-on-year.

In terms of future focus, he informed, “We are looking at growth in the Asia Pacific region. India and Japan are key markets for us. We are expanding our presence in the areas we are. We will double our investments here. Hyderabad will remain a key hub for our growth.”
