Baffle Achieves AWS Database Ready Certification
Data protection company Baffle has been certified for the Amazon AWS Database Ready Program, a designation that recognizes technology partners whose solutions are validated to work reliably with AWS’s managed database platform-as-a-service (DB PaaS) offerings. The certification signals that Baffle’s tooling meets AWS’s technical and operational standards for enterprises and SaaS providers migrating workloads to the cloud.
What Is the AWS Database Ready Program?
The AWS Database Ready Program is designed to help enterprises and SaaS providers adopt cloud-native database services at scale. Certified partners offer solutions that complement AWS’s managed database ecosystem — such as Amazon RDS — by addressing common operational challenges like security, compliance, and data migration.
Baffle Cloud Data Protection Platform (CDPP) for AWS
The certification coincides with Baffle’s launch of its Cloud Data Protection Platform (CDPP) for AWS. The CDPP is built around a simplified encryption model designed to enable a data-centric security posture in cloud environments — without requiring architectural overhauls or modifications to existing applications.
The platform integrates with a broad set of AWS services and provides the following capabilities:
- Single-click secure migration: Integrates with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to automatically protect data during lift-and-shift migrations to Amazon RDS.
- Field-level encryption with no application changes: Uses an integrated BaffleShield™ proxy to encrypt individual data fields transparently, without touching application code.
- Record-level encryption (RLE) for AWS RDS: Enables multi-tenant SaaS providers to protect data in shared data stores using unique encryption keys per data owner.
- Data shredding: Supports compliance with GDPR and similar privacy regulations by cryptographically erasing data tied to specific users or records.
- Data exfiltration control (DEC) for AWS RDS: Prevents large-volume extraction of sensitive data from RDS databases, reducing the risk of insider threats and bulk data theft.
- AWS key management integrations: Full support for AWS Key Management Service (KMS), AWS CloudHSM, and AWS Secrets Manager, giving customers control over their own encryption keys.
Why This Matters for Cloud-Native Data Security
A recurring challenge in cloud adoption is that encryption is often bolted on as an afterthought, requiring significant application rework or performance trade-offs. Baffle’s approach positions encryption at the data layer — between the application and the database — so that protection is applied consistently regardless of how data is accessed.
Record-level encryption is particularly relevant for multi-tenant SaaS architectures, where multiple customers share the same underlying database tables. By assigning unique keys per data owner, a breach affecting one tenant’s key does not expose other tenants’ data.
The data shredding capability addresses a specific GDPR requirement: the right to erasure. Rather than locating and deleting every record associated with a user — a costly operation in large distributed systems — cryptographic shredding renders data unreadable by destroying the associated key, effectively making the data irretrievable.
Baffle’s Position in the Market
Commenting on the certification, Ameesh Divatia, CEO and co-founder of Baffle, said:
“Cloud migration and adoption of database platform-as-a-service is taking the enterprise by storm. We’re proud to be certified as a technology partner for the AWS Database Ready Program. This milestone provides further validation of our Cloud Data Protection Platform, which helps accelerate the adoption of AWS RDS across our joint customers. Baffle’s simplified encryption operates seamlessly with cloud-native deployments at scale without requiring architectural overhauls or application modification and is a perfect solution for cloud customers confronted with modern-day privacy regulations.”
