TechGig and Google Cloud Partner on Cloud DevJam
TechGig, in collaboration with Google Cloud, launched Cloud DevJam — an interactive online upskilling program aimed at helping Indian IT professionals strengthen their cloud computing skills. The initiative was announced in May 2020, during a period when COVID-19 lockdowns made remote, self-paced learning especially relevant for the developer community.
The program was designed with a specific goal: enable working developers to build practical Google Cloud Platform (GCP) skills without leaving home, while also preparing them for formal Google Cloud certification.
What Cloud DevJam Covers
Cloud DevJam covers a broad range of Google Cloud Platform skill areas, including:
- Core infrastructure — foundational GCP services, compute, networking, and storage
- Data and machine learning — working with BigQuery, AI/ML APIs, and data pipelines
- Application development — building and deploying apps on GCP using services such as App Engine, Cloud Run, and Kubernetes Engine
The curriculum was structured to take participants from foundational knowledge through to more advanced, job-relevant GCP skills.
Program Format: Live Sessions, Labs, and Hackathons
Cloud DevJam is not a passive video course. The program combines several interactive learning formats to keep participants engaged and to validate learning outcomes:
- Live interactive sessions led by Google Cloud subject matter experts
- Multiple choice question (MCQ) tests to assess conceptual understanding
- Hands-on labs for practical, real-environment skill building
- Hackathons and skill tests to apply knowledge under realistic conditions
Participants who complete the program are also given the opportunity to pursue Google Cloud certification, providing a recognized, verifiable credential to add to their professional profile.
Why This Program Was Launched
The rationale behind Cloud DevJam reflects both the immediate context of the 2020 pandemic and longer-term workforce trends in India’s IT sector.
“The COVID-19 outbreak, and the social lockdown, has made it critically important for everyone to remain updated with the newer technologies. Today, the digital frontier — led by cloud-based technologies — is driving most initiatives in all the sectors. Cloud DevJam has been curated to help the developers learn and understand the fundamentals of Google Cloud and advance their skills in the process.”
— Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TimesJobs and TechGig
“The Cloud DevJam is unique because it’s been conceptualized to enable developers to build their knowledge while at home, and companies will need to call on their skills in the immediate and long term to ensure business agility, resilience, and overall competitiveness.”
— Karan Bajwa, Managing Director, Google Cloud India
Context: Cloud Skills and the Indian IT Workforce
India has one of the largest concentrations of IT professionals in the world, and demand for cloud-certified engineers has grown significantly as enterprises across sectors accelerate their migration to cloud infrastructure. Programs like Cloud DevJam address a real skills gap: many developers have strong software engineering fundamentals but limited hands-on experience with managed cloud services, distributed data platforms, and cloud-native application patterns.
Structured programs that combine live expert instruction with lab environments and recognized certification paths offer a more effective upskilling route than self-directed study alone — particularly for professionals who need to demonstrate cloud competency to current or prospective employers.
Google Cloud Certification Pathway
One of the distinguishing features of Cloud DevJam is the direct link to Google Cloud’s official certification program. Google Cloud offers a tiered certification track, from foundational to professional and specialty levels. Relevant certifications for developers participating in a program like Cloud DevJam would typically include:
- Google Cloud Digital Leader (foundational)
- Associate Cloud Engineer
- Professional Cloud Developer
- Professional Data Engineer
- Professional Machine Learning Engineer
Earning a Google Cloud certification provides independently validated proof of skill that is recognized by employers across cloud-first and cloud-migrating organizations globally.
