Hello everyone, to see emerging software advancement in the IT corporate world and due to their trending IT infrastructure. So, today in this article, we are going to give lessons on the installation process of Jira on Mac Os so, we will look at prerequisites and then we will download Jira for Mac Os, how to start and shutdown Jira (Tomcat), set up the home directory and then finally, we will set up Jira for use. Let’s have a look!

Let us begin.

Step 1:

Prerequisites for installing Jira on the mac operating system

Java must be installed in your system so to check you can go to your terminal and say java –version and this shows you your java version currently installed in case you are not getting this you can install java first and then if you will have this prerequisite completed step number two will be

Step 2:

How to download Jira for Mac OS

You will download Jira for the mac operating system and this is the site

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download

Where you will download it from so you will go to google and you can say download Jira and you will get that site, you will go there and there you will get that information it is free for thirty days for unlimited users and there you can select your operating system so, you will select OS 10 and then download so it will take a few seconds to a few minutes to download so you have already downloaded it if you will go to your downloaded zip file so if you will go to your downloads folder you will see that zip file which will get downloaded and you will unzip this so, you will have unzipped it and kept on your desktop there so this will be unzipped folder so now the third step is

Step 3:

How to start and shutdown Jira

Or you can also say the Jira tomcat server because Jira comes with the tomcat server so you will have to go to the bin directory inside the folder and you will find startup.SH and shutdown got SH files and these are the files that you will run to start and shutdown Jira server so, we will learn that you will go inside your folder and there you will see there will be bin directory and inside the bin, you will find that startup.SH and shut down. SH there you will have a startup.SH and there you will have a shutdown.SH so, to start you will go to the terminal and go to the location bin folder so for example, you will just press command on your keyboard to get that information and copy the location of that folder and then you will go to your terminal and you will change the directory to that bin folder of Jira and now you can say SH startup.SH and hit enter and you will see that information and it would show you tom get started and to check you can go to your browser and you can go to localhost 8080 so as of now it will not run or you may run this command again and yes, you will see the Jira server is up but there will some problem and it will say we cannot locate the Jira home directory so you will have to set up the home directory so what you will do you will shut it down so you will say sh shutdown.SH and tomcat will stop so if you go to localhost 8080 now so you will see the server will be stopped and you will learn how to set up the home directory and that you have already seen that you will go to localhost 8080.

Step 4:

How to set home directory

To check if the Jira has server is running and to set the home directory you will have to go to that file Jira application. Properties which is inside web-inf glasses folder and

Go to file Jira-application .properties located in Jira folder >> Atlassian–Jira >> Web-INF>> classes

there you will have to provide a location for Jira home so you will see how to do that so you will go to the Jira folder and you will have to go to atlassian Jira folder there you will have web-inf and there you will have classes and there you would find a file Jira application properties so you can open that file with any text editor on your system if you have a text wrangler, you will open this and you will see it will ask for your location for Jira home so you can create any folder and then provide that folder as Jira home so you will create a folder on your desktop itself and you will name that folder as Jira Home hit enter and just press command I to copy its location and you will give the same location on that file, you will give that location so that will Jira home and you can save it and close it okay and see you if you will open this folder as of now that will empty but as you will now start your Jira servers you will see there are folders and files getting created there all the logs will get there as well so now you will go back to your terminal and again say SH startup.asset and it’s storm get started you will go to your browser localhost 8080 you will run the start command again and you will go to localhost 8080 and now you will see atlassian Jira is starting up so it means it will take up your home directory as well it might take a few seconds to start up also if you will now go to your Jira home folder you will inside the folder and you can see all these logs and all these information will now getting created inside that folder. Now, for the first time, it will have this information if you want to set it up yourself or you want to set it up for me so, this is our next step.

Step 5:

Setup Jira for use

You will have to set up Jira for use so you will have started your Jira server and now you will complete the setup so you can click on set it up for me and continue there you will have to select the product so you will select Jira software and select Jira software server you can name any organization there up and running and then generate license so there it will give you the information of your license you will say yes confirmation and there it will ask you for some email ids and then password and retype the password so you will give some email id there and password say next so now it will finally set up all the instances and everything that Jira requires on that particular machine so you will wait for few seconds for that setup to get completed meantime you will look at some tips so instead of localhost you can also use the IP 127.0.0.1 which is the Ip for localhost or you can also use your system public IP instead of localhost so instead of localhost there you can use that IP and you will now see the Jira will ready to go and you can get started with Jira. I hope this information will be helpful for you and it will give you privileges as an onboarding learning concept with valuable steps.

Hello friends, today, we are going to teach you about Gitlab runner. On that how can you install, register, start Gitlab runner and we will do this on the Windows operating system (Windows OS). So, if you want to learn Gitlab runner then we will start from very basic it means from scratch and we will go up step by step.

What is Gitlab runner?

Before, I write down the steps to all procedure that happens in Gitlab runner. Let us see, what is Gitlab runner? So, in the very simple word if you talk about Gitlab CI. It is an open-source continuous integration service included with Gitlab. So, this service by default is included with Gitlab. It is used to run jobs & send results back to Gitlab.

How to install Gitlab runner?

So, you will go to your Google and search for Gitlab runner. There will be a documentation page and you will go there. You will see all the documentation about Gitlab runner there so, it is written in a go programming language. And you may see all the features will be there, it will allow multiple jobs concurrently & compatibility. Then you will have a section for installing Gitlab runner and have an installed link. If you will see that there will be a link for Gitlab runner from there, you may install it. And you have lots of binaries over there so, you will go on windows. You will go to your window system and go to the same link. So, you will have the instructions for installation. You will create a folder in the name Gitlab-runner and you will choose from your C drive option, create a folder in the name of that. And the next step, you will have to download the binary for your operating system. You will go to your computer and this pc option and do a right-click, you will go to properties option. And you can see all details about your operating system, the bit size & everything. So, you will choose the bit size and download the Gitlab runner .exe. If you will go to your download folder then it will be there. You will copy that from there & move it to the folder Gitlab runner that will have been created. You will paste in that and rename it. If you will go to the documentation page so, there will be mentioned to take the rename the binary to Gitlab runner. Then you will have to run an elevated command prompt for this. Now, what does it mean? It means that you can run your command line with admin rights. And you can also use Git bash there, you will just move to your command line and from there, you will choose run as administrator option. From there, you will go to the location of that folder. Suppose, you will have in other drives like e drive then first, you will have to change the drive-by saying or writing e: and enter then you can go to the location. Also, the shortcut is you can go to the address bar of your folder and you will say cmd, press enter. Then it will open in the same folder, this is the shortcut so, you can do it. In your folder, you will have to run the command GitLab runner .exe install. So, you will run this command in administrator then you will see that it is done. If you will say GitLab runner –version then you will get all details there. So, these are the commands:-

Gitlab runner .exe install

Gitlab runner –version

To check, if your GitLab runner is installed so, you can run the command gitlab runner –version. Then you can also start using this command GitLab runner .exe start.

How to register Gitlab runner?

Now, you need to register your GitLab runner. If you will go to the GitLab documentation page then you will have the link to register GitLab runner. If you will scroll down, you will see that multiple operating systems and documentation for that. Further, you will scroll down, you will have windows. There will be steps that you can use for windows. So, you will first run GitLab runner .exe stop to stop the runner and for registration, you will have to run the command GitLab runner .exe register then you will do the registration process. So, it will ask for GitLab coordinator-ci URL and after entering the URL. Then it will ask for a GitLab-ci token so, the token you will get from your projects. You will log in to your GitLab account and will go to your projects, you can also go to your projects from the top bar. Then in your projects, you will go to settings. Under settings, you will go to CI/CD and there you will find sections of the runner. You will see sections for setup runner manually, there you will also see those steps you will have already done and the token will be there. After providing the token, you will have to provide some description like my-runner1 and anything you can say here. And it will also ask for GitLab-ci tags then you can add like ssh, ci, etc. If you will enter then it will show register runner …..Succeeded and everything will be done. Then it will ask to enter the executor like ssh, Kubernetes, custom, virtual box, Docker machine, etc. Then you will put shell and press enter so, it will show the runner registered successfully. So, you will start the runner using the command like gitLab runner .exe start

How to start Gitlab runner?

Now, you will have to check. To start the Gitlab runner, the gitLab runner .exe start is the command to check. Then you will have to check if the runner is started and the next step will be to check runner is started in the project. The same thing, you will have to do for this. You will go to your projects then settings and after CI/CD. Again, you will go to runner and scroll down. If you will scroll down, you would see the project is activated under the runner. You will also see the name that you had given to that. Now, this runner will be activated and it can run the jobs. All this, you will have learned how to run jobs, use tags, and Gitlab ci. I hope, this data will be very helpful for you.

Hello everyone, welcome to the wonderful world of computer programing. Today, we are going to talk about the repository. Before starting this, I want to do clear one thing that must, you will read this article till the end. Let’s have look, how can we make GitHub repository? As you know about GitHub account creation.

Create a repository in GitHub

Simply, you can understand the repository like repository is your folder in that you upload your projects. So, how can we make a repository? Now, you have gone to the option of creating a new repository through one click. There will be a page open, you can make a repository in that. Like, you make the repository from the name of GitHub training. After that, suppose, you can’t even give a description due to optional. From there, by doing initialize through public or private, you can do both because both are free. Now, we will look what is the difference between public, and private. Public, you will create a repository there. After this, your repository will be created. There will show your folder GitHub training in that README.md file will show you. What is .md? .md means markdown extension happen. Now, let’s look, what can we do?

Creating a new file in the repository

Now, what do you do in this? You create a new file in this. Suppose, you want to make a chat application in that, you make a chat application then you note of that requirements. You have made a file like requirement.txt, after that, you do a requirement note like this is a chat application. After making the chat application, You have to put features. what types of features you should want? So, emoji should be there, typing option will be there, colors should be well, should be vibrant. After putting all these things, you have to do save. Those codes of our, not like this, suppose, one of your programs or software like a chat application. Even any developer, doesn’t make them at once, this making into pieces. Like anybody is making front hand, backhand, applying dark mode and only making for emojis, it’s made like this.

Commit the created file

What will you do there? There you will write your first commit, after that your commit will happen in the master branch, as you will do commit a new file. It will go to save, if you will go to requirement.txt, all files will be saved. If you fetching in code, you will go in the commit, there will have done your initial and first commit. Suppose, you have to do add more features. The next day has started, if you have again opened the program, you have to do add features again. Suppose, you have to add dark mode or you want to add a video call option. These both, you want to add then you will write in commit like “dark mode added”. There are commit changes in that commit, it happens a meaningful comment. So that, programmer come to understand, what they have done? You have done commit in the master branch when the commit goes happen. It will be saved in your main file.

What is the commit in GitHub?

Suppose, you have to look at the previous version. When you will go to the first commit after that dark mode will be there. The Dark mode is that in whose your final file will be there. There will be a plus option that describes the changes, addition, and deletion. What does it mean? It shows that all modes have been added to your file, it will be visible there. And you will look more into that what happened with your first commit so, in the first commit, your dark mode or video call option will not be there. You will also get files which you made in previous. Suppose, you want to view your GitHub training repository for what things you have added in that. Suppose, you open the second browser in that you will look “how can you do a search?” so, you can search like “Beaplayer024github training”.

How to download code from GitHub?

When you search from the name of “beaplayer024github” then there will you get a repository easily. Those you had recently made in GitHub, from there you can see which features have been added, or you can also download code from there. You can download code from the zip option, this privilege happens of your GitHub open-source. Anybody can contribute to your code, see of that. Suppose, you’re public, you have seen of it.

How to create a private repository in GitHub?

Suppose, you have made a private repository. There will be an option of the new repository, you want to make a repository from the name of GitHub private. You want to make a private repository, when you click on the option of create repository then there comes the option of private. It means that your repository is private. if you want to verify that. So, when you will open the second profile, there will visible your only public repository that you will make.

Changing private repository to the public

Suppose, those you have made private repository, you want to change their visibility. Like, your mind has changed, you want to change of that visibility then you will go to setting and you will select an option of the danger zone, click on the change visibility option. This way, you will change your repository through a visibility option. Visibility will be a change in the setting. When you will refresh your repositories, there will be present two repositories. You will see there, your private repositories will become public. This benefit happens of your own GitHub, you have seen the benefits of GitHub. How can you keep to protect your repositories? Suppose, you have to see your code to someone. If you want to see, you can see that code, or even, you can’t see it. You have seen commit, those versions exist. You can understand commit like this way. Suppose, you have your own versions, you will go there, after that in GitHub training. Thereof your versions like version 1.2 and version 1.3 then if you should want version 1.2 so, you can download from there. This benefits you get from GitHub, it takes care of your versions. So, you say distributed version control system of it, versions keep saved of it. You can see that versions when you had made them.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–OWIT Global, a provider of insurance-specific microservices solutions for the global insurance industry, announces an advanced release of their Bordereaux Management Solution. The new release expands insurance-specific business rules, furthers functionality to support incoming and outgoing data feeds, and contains additional pre-defined performance dashboards.

The Bordereaux Management Solution solves the insurance industry’s underserved need to automate bordereaux processing for both MGAs and Carriers. Today, the handling of policy, claims, and cash data is onboarded manually or by software development, both of which are quite time-consuming.

“We continue to advance our solution with input from our existing customers. For the carrier, we support complex data sets from multiple formats, such as excel spreadsheets with multiple cross-referenced tabs and delimited/fixed-length file formats. For our MGAs, we support extraction and mapping of the data from multiple databases to various carrier contract formats,” said Wendy Aarons-Corman, Chief Executive Officer of OWIT Global. “Our solution also has an analytics service built-in, providing our customers with operational dashboards to evaluate the data running through the solution.”

The OWIT Global Bordereaux Management Solution is a no-code, configurable environment, giving the power of onboarding and managing bordereaux data streams to the business user. Data is consumed, cleansed, and transformed into a desired output file. Rules and 3rd party calls to validate data is also supported.

“Our customers are experiencing an immediate ROI. The time to configure and test has a dramatic reduction compared to the traditional model,” Aarons-Corman continued. “We encourage the industry to take some time to investigate our solution. There is a huge advantage in leveraging an insurance-specific solution that is continually advancing with input from other insurers. It is a great opportunity to get a feature-rich solution at a reasonable cost.”

About OWIT GLOBAL

OWIT is a global insurance technology provider offering solutions built on a modern architecture designed to simplify innovation and integrate with existing customer environments to maximize their investments.
Google Cloud's updated GCS Connector for Hadoop delivers lower latency, better Parquet/ORC throughput, and stronger directory isolation — making it easier than ever to replace HDFS with Cloud Storage.

Originally reported via it.toolbox.com (2019). This article covers the key capabilities and performance improvements introduced in the updated Cloud Storage Connector for Hadoop (GCS Connector).

What Is the Google Cloud Storage Connector for Hadoop?

The Cloud Storage Connector for Hadoop — often referred to as the GCS Connector — is an open-source Java client library that runs inside Hadoop JVMs. It enables Hadoop-based workloads, including Apache Spark jobs and Hadoop Compatible File System (HCFS) CLI operations, to read from and write to Google Cloud Storage (GCS) directly, in place of or alongside the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS).

Google Cloud Platform announced an updated version of the connector that focuses on throughput efficiency for columnar file formats such as Apache Parquet and ORC, stronger isolation for Cloud Storage directory modifications, and a series of broad performance improvements including lower latency, increased parallelization, and smarter configuration defaults.

Why Replace HDFS with Cloud Storage?

Storing big data workloads in Google Cloud Storage rather than HDFS offers several practical advantages for teams running Hadoop or Spark at scale:

Cost reduction: Cloud Storage eliminates the need for a long-running HDFS cluster with three on-disk replicas, which can be significantly more expensive to operate continuously.

Storage–compute separation: Decoupling storage from compute lets teams scale each layer independently based on actual demand rather than keeping them locked together.

Persistent storage after cluster shutdown: Unlike HDFS, which is tied to cluster lifetime, Cloud Storage buckets persist after Hadoop clusters are terminated, preventing data loss and reducing costs from always-on clusters.

Shared buckets across clusters: Multiple ephemeral Hadoop clusters can read from and write to the same Cloud Storage buckets simultaneously, simplifying multi-cluster architectures.

No storage administration overhead: Tasks like HDFS upgrades, balancing, and maintaining high availability are eliminated — GCS handles durability and availability natively.

Compatibility and Deployment

The GCS Connector is fully open source and officially supported by Google Cloud Platform. It comes pre-configured in Cloud Dataproc, GCP’s managed Hadoop and Spark service. However, it can also be installed and used with other Hadoop distributions, including Hortonworks, Cloudera, and MapR, making it a viable path for migrating on-premises HDFS data to the cloud or bursting workloads onto GCP infrastructure.

Performance Improvements in the Updated GCS Connector

The updated release includes a range of targeted performance optimizations. Key improvements include:

Directory Rename Parallelization

In addition to using Cloud Storage batch requests, the connector now executes those batches in parallel. According to Google, this reduces the rename time for a directory containing 32,000 files from approximately 15 minutes down to 1 minute 30 seconds — a roughly 10× improvement.

Latency Optimizations

The connector reduces the number of Cloud Storage API requests required to complete high-level Hadoop file system operations, cutting round-trip overhead and lowering overall operation latency.

Concurrent Glob Algorithm Execution

Both regular and flat glob algorithms now run concurrently, allowing the connector to automatically yield the best-performing result for a given file tree structure — whether it is deep and hierarchical or wide and shallow.

Smarter Implicit Directory Repair

Implicit directory repair is now triggered during delete and rename operations rather than during list and glob operations. This change reduces the latency of expensive list and glob calls and removes the requirement for write permissions on read-only requests, improving security posture for read workloads.

Cloud Storage Read Consistency

The connector enforces requests against a consistent version of a Cloud Storage object, preventing scenarios where different parts of a read operation inadvertently access different object versions. This improves both data correctness and read performance.

Columnar Format Throughput: Parquet and ORC

One of the headline improvements in this release is increased throughput efficiency for columnar file formats — particularly Apache Parquet and ORC (Optimized Row Columnar). These formats are widely used in data lake and analytics workloads on Hive, Spark SQL, and Presto, making this improvement directly relevant to teams running analytical pipelines on GCP.

Summary

The updated Google Cloud Storage Connector for Hadoop is a meaningful step toward making Cloud Storage a production-grade replacement for HDFS in big data environments. With improvements to directory operation speed, read latency, glob performance, and columnar format throughput, the connector lowers both the operational complexity and the performance gap that has historically made HDFS migration difficult. Teams running Hadoop or Spark — whether on Cloud Dataproc or on-premises distributions — should evaluate this release as part of their cloud migration or hybrid architecture planning.

The GCS Connector source code is available on GitHub under the Google Cloud Platform organization. Refer to the official GCP documentation for installation guides and current release notes.

Source: techtarget.com

With key maturity milestones behind them, the maintainers of Jenkins X prepare a SaaS version, and plan to collaborate with Google’s Tekton and Netflix’s Spinnaker.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Jenkins community’s answer to Kubernetes and
GitOps is ready for enterprise production after 18 months of
development, but there’s much more in store.

Jenkins X automates GitOps-style CI/CD for apps deployed to cloud container platforms. It added support for serverless Jenkins, in which application test builds spin up ephemeral Jenkins masters and worker clusters on-demand, in October 2018. A few months later it integrated with GitHub’s Prow Kubernetes automation tool for CI/CD, which triggers Jenkins X application deployments and provisions Kubernetes resources via GitHub pull requests. The project shifted to YAML configuration files instead of Jenkins’ traditional Groovy files in early 2019, and began to store those files in cloud storage buckets instead of locally on the static Jenkins server favored by traditional Jenkins.

All of that makes Jenkins X production-ready for shops that want a highly abstracted approach to GitOps automation, and are prepared to deploy the software themselves. Jenkins commercial backer CloudBees also rolled out a stable Jenkins X distro with enterprise support for that audience on July 31.

But to give the project broader appeal, CloudBees and the open source
community will launch a SaaS version of Jenkins X, CloudBees
distinguished engineer James Strachan revealed in a Jenkins World/DevOps
World conference session here this week.

“There will be a hosted, managed version of Jenkins X at some point in the future,” Strachan said. He declined to specify a time frame for the SaaS release.

Enterprise Jenkins shops such as Eli Lilly and Company will hold out
for the SaaS form of Jenkins X before they adopt it, after years of
heavy lifting to create their own internal Jenkins-as-a-service
platforms for developers.

“I would be hesitant to move to Jenkins X on my infrastructure if in
six months’ time a SaaS comes out,” said Nicholas Liffen, software
engineering team lead at the pharmaceutical company, based in
Indianapolis.

Jenkins X pushes users toward a GitOps lifestyle

In general, Liffen said he wants out of the business of building DevOps platforms.

“We’re not an infrastructure company, we’re a pharmaceutical company,” he said. In the past, highly regulated businesses such as Eli Lilly shied away from cloud-hosted services, but cloud service providers have improved their security certification and accreditation documentation, and proven themselves to be at least security-neutral compared with self-hosted IT services, Liffen said.

Still, as with the rest of the Jenkins community’s cloud-native ambitions for CI/CD tools, certain organizational philosophies and workflow styles must accompany tools such as Jenkins X if they’re to be used effectively. Customers must scrap old methods, from repeated builds as code moves through test and staging environments to handcrafted shared Jenkins libraries, in favor of GitOps-style deployments that re-create the environments as versioned code moves through them, rather than re-create the app to suit each pipeline stage.

This is a much tougher sell than any of the Jenkins X project’s technical automation features, Strachan acknowledged.

“The hardest thing is changing culture to get people to work in this new way,” he said.

Jenkins X roadmap to broaden plugins, integrations

Jenkins X has a few more items on the roadmap other than SaaS, mostly to flesh out integrations with third-party tools. A sub-project dubbed Lighthouse will add Prow-style Kubernetes automation for Bitbucket and GitLab repositories. Jenkins uses apps to create reusable configuration files rather than shared libraries, and about seven or eight are available so far.

“We’ve got a long way to go to catch up to Jenkins with its 2000
plugins,” Strachan said. “But the goal is eventually to get there.”

While the original Jenkins practically created the CI category at its inception 15 years ago, Jenkins has many more competitors in container-based CI/CD and GitOps, including GitHub itself. Jenkins X will join forces with a few of them, namely Google’s Tekton CI/CD execution engine and Netflix’s Spinnaker Kubernetes CD project, through the Continuous Delivery Foundation. Jenkins X contributors have already started to “nudge” users to delegate Kubernetes orchestration to Tekton as a superior way to automate Kubernetes cluster creation for greenfield projects, Strachan said.

In the meantime, Jenkins X, Tekton and Spinnaker contributors will
work on standard utilities for common elements of cloud-native CI/CD,
such as user interfaces and Kubernetes custom resource definitions,
Strachan said.

“With Jenkins X, we have a blob of metadata that gets created with
every release,” he said. “Spinnaker kind of has something similar, so we
said, ‘Could we just align on the same declarative metadata [to
determine] what is a release, what is a rollback, what is an
environment?'”

Armory raised $28 million in Series B funding to build enterprise-grade tooling on top of the open-source Spinnaker continuous delivery platform, targeting large organizations migrating workloads to the cloud.

In August 2019, startup Armory announced a $28 million Series B funding round aimed at accelerating its enterprise distribution of Spinnaker, the open-source multi-cloud continuous delivery (CD) platform originally created by Netflix. The raise signaled growing enterprise appetite for mature, production-grade CD tooling as organizations scaled their DevOps practices across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

This article is based on reporting originally published by ITPro Today, drawing on an interview with Armory CEO Daniel Odio.

What Is Spinnaker?

Spinnaker is an open-source, multi-cloud continuous delivery platform that Netflix originally developed to manage its large-scale cloud deployments. It has since evolved into a community-governed project with contributors from multiple organizations. Spinnaker supports deploying to a wide range of targets — virtual machines, containers, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and other public cloud providers — making it appealing for teams that need flexibility across deployment environments.

According to Odio, Spinnaker effectively codifies the deployment best practices developed at Netflix and Google into a reusable platform: “You can think of Spinnaker as codifying kind of the best practices of Netflix and Google in a platform.”

A key strength is its role as an orchestration layer across cloud providers — what Odio described as “the conductor of the cloud orchestra” — handling the provisioning, management, and teardown of cloud infrastructure across different targets from a single control plane.

An Enterprise Distribution of Spinnaker

Armory follows an open-core business model: the foundation of its platform is the open-source Spinnaker project, with proprietary features layered on top for commercial customers. This approach lets Armory contribute to the upstream open-source project while building differentiated capabilities for enterprise use cases.

Odio highlighted two notable enterprise-specific capabilities:

Air-gap deployment support: Armory can deploy Spinnaker in highly secure, network-isolated (“air gap”) data center environments where servers have no direct connection to external networks — a common requirement in regulated industries such as finance and defense.

Pipelines as Code (GitOps): Armory introduced a feature that allows teams to define Spinnaker pipeline configurations as code, check those definitions into Git, and then share them as reusable modules across an organization. This GitOps approach ties deployment orchestration directly to version-controlled source code, improving auditability and consistency.

GitOps — the practice of using Git commits and pull requests to drive infrastructure and deployment operations — was an emerging pattern in the DevOps community at the time. Armory’s pipelines-as-code feature positioned Spinnaker as a natural fit for teams already using GitHub or other Git-based workflows.

Why Enterprise Teams Need CD Tooling at Scale

Odio’s core argument was that large enterprises — particularly Global 2000 companies — face a different class of CD challenge than smaller organizations. With thousands of developers, multiple business units, and a mix of on-premises and cloud infrastructure, they need:

A single, standardized deployment path to production (a “golden path”)

Centrally enforced compliance and security policies

The ability to route workloads to the appropriate cloud target automatically

Visibility across multiple cloud providers in one interface

Spinnaker’s multi-cloud architecture directly addresses these requirements. Developers can define what to deploy without needing to specify the underlying infrastructure details — whether a VM, container, or a particular cloud provider’s native service. Spinnaker handles the target-specific orchestration transparently.

Odio acknowledged that adopting Spinnaker is a significant investment: “Spinnaker is absolutely a big commitment and investment.” To support enterprise onboarding, Armory maintains a professional services and customer success organization that embeds with clients during implementation.

Multi-Cloud and Hybrid Cloud as Primary Use Cases

While Netflix built Spinnaker for aggressive, all-in cloud deployment, most large enterprises in 2019 were still in the early stages of cloud migration. Hybrid cloud — running workloads across both on-premises data centers and public cloud — was a common intermediate state. Spinnaker’s ability to manage deployments across both environments made it a practical tool for enterprises gradually shifting workloads rather than performing a hard cutover.

Odio positioned Spinnaker’s multi-cloud capabilities as a business differentiator: teams can visualize infrastructure state across all providers and deployment targets in a single view, reducing operational complexity during and after migration.

The CD Foundation

Spinnaker’s governance received a further boost in early 2019 when the Linux Foundation launched the Continuous Delivery Foundation (CDF) on March 12. The CDF provides a vendor-neutral home for key open-source CD projects. At launch, the foundation’s project portfolio included:

Spinnaker — multi-cloud CD platform

Jenkins — widely used open-source CI/CD automation server

Jenkins X — cloud-native CI/CD for Kubernetes

Tekton — Kubernetes-native pipeline framework (also a founding project)

Armory was a founding member of the CD Foundation. Odio expressed strong support for the initiative, framing it as an education and advocacy vehicle: “The CD Foundation is a platform through which cloud-native and leading projects that enable more modern ways to get to production can have a voice.”

He also argued that the broader DevOps community still had work to do in helping engineering leadership at large organizations understand that continuous delivery is a strategic priority, not simply a tooling choice: “DevOps is strategic, it’s no longer just tactical.”

Key Takeaways

Armory builds an enterprise distribution of the open-source Spinnaker CD platform using an open-core model.

Its $28M Series B (announced August 2019) was intended to expand product capabilities and go-to-market for Global 2000 customers.

Proprietary capabilities include air-gap deployment support and GitOps-style pipelines as code.

Spinnaker’s multi-cloud architecture makes it suited for hybrid cloud migration scenarios.

Armory is a founding member of the Linux Foundation’s Continuous Delivery Foundation, alongside Jenkins, Jenkins X, and Tekton.

Unifying Agile and DevOps Through Value Stream Management

At the Agile 2019 conference in Washington D.C., CollabNet VersionOne announced significant new capabilities across its enterprise Agile and DevOps product portfolio. The releases target organizations looking to bridge Agile planning workflows and DevOps delivery pipelines into a single, integrated value stream.

The company showcased enhancements to three core offerings: VersionOne for Agile management, Continuum for DevOps pipeline orchestration, and the combined VS solution, which integrates both platforms into a unified software delivery lifecycle tool.

“High performing software organizations are bridging Agile and DevOps initiatives together through common goals that focus on business value. To help customers deliver software that impacts the bottom-line, we continue to add new functionality that supports teams and the need for organization-wide, data-driven workflows.”
Flint Brenton, CEO, CollabNet VersionOne

What Was Announced: Key New Capabilities

CollabNet VersionOne highlighted five specific feature additions across its product suite:

VersionOne ECHO – Synchronization between VersionOne and other ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) tools, enabling data consistency across planning environments.

VersionOne Portfolio Level Dependency Board – A visualization layer for tracking inter-team and cross-portfolio dependencies at scale, supporting frameworks like SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework).

VersionOne Progress Data Visibility in Continuum – Surfaces Agile progress metrics directly within the Continuum DevOps platform, giving delivery teams a shared view of work status without switching tools.

VS Exchange – A marketplace for custom and preconfigured extensions and workflows spanning both Continuum and VersionOne, enabling teams to tailor their toolchain integrations.

Continuum TestDrive Improvements – Streamlined provisioning within the Continuum TestDrive environment to reduce onboarding friction for new users evaluating the platform.

The VS Platform: Bridging Agile Planning and DevOps Delivery

The flagship VS solution combines VersionOne’s Agile planning strengths with Continuum’s pipeline orchestration capabilities. The goal is to extend visibility and control beyond a sprint’s “done” definition and into the full software delivery pipeline — covering version control, CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, and testing tooling in one unified interface.

This kind of end-to-end visibility is central to Value Stream Management (VSM), a discipline focused on measuring and improving the flow of business value from idea through production deployment. By unifying disparate DevOps tools under a single workflow layer, CollabNet VersionOne aimed to give enterprise teams the data they need to make prioritization decisions based on business value rather than technical throughput alone.

Enterprise Scale and Agile Framework Support

A recurring theme across the announcements was support for Agile at scale. The Portfolio Level Dependency Board and improved SAFe framework alignment signal that CollabNet VersionOne’s target audience is large enterprises running multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs) or coordinating dozens of teams under a program increment (PI) planning model.

The ECHO synchronization feature addresses a common pain point in large organizations: Agile planning data living in one tool while development execution data lives in another, creating silos that slow decision-making. By automating synchronization between VersionOne and external ALM systems, ECHO aimed to reduce the manual overhead of keeping planning and execution data aligned.

Conference Context

CollabNet VersionOne described itself as a founding sponsor of the Agile Alliance conference, with continuous participation spanning more than a decade at the time of this announcement. The company demonstrated its new software at booth #102 during Agile 2019, held August 5–9, 2019 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington D.C.

About CollabNet VersionOne

CollabNet VersionOne positioned itself as an Enterprise Value Stream Management leader focused on accelerating high-value software development and delivery while improving quality and reducing risk. Its product portfolio spanned idea capture through production delivery, targeting global enterprise and government customers. More information was available at www.collab.net.

Editor’s note: CollabNet VersionOne was subsequently rebranded. Readers researching current product availability should verify the current state of the VersionOne, Continuum, and VS product lines directly with Digital.ai, which acquired the company.
