Hello folks, welcome to the exotic world of programming. Let’s take a move to the scene of the fork and its contribution in that how can we do fork and contribution in GitHub. If you would understand that each and every aspect of account creation, making a repository, and creating the branch in GitHub then this is the place where you can great ideology on the fork.

Adding more features

Suppose you have opened your profile and there is a repository of your like “GitHub training” and one of your files is there from the name of requirement.txt. So, you have to do designing of two features like dark mode and video calls but you don’t know how to do that? Then there is a contributor, it can make dark mode or one type of front hand. If anybody wants to contribute so, how will they do?

Contributing to the code

Suppose, you are a contributor and you are opened your own profile in the next browser. If you want to contribute to your GitHub project through your name like in beaproplayer and GitHub training then you will search like beaproplayer024/GitHub training in the GitHub search bar. So, there will have come of your repositories and requirement.txt file will open and from there you can create the file. When you will do create a file then the notification will come there like this way “you don’t have access to”. Because you have opened your own profile how can you get access to another profile id? You’re not a contributor and you have no right to doing changes in files. So, you will have to create a fork for this, what does it mean? It means that they have made a replica or you can say mirror for this. When you will do changes to this then one request will have to send to the beaproplayer024 profile. Suppose, you have to add a dark mode design, making a text file, you are making a darkmode.txt file. You are adding like designing, video calls, features adding and thanks, after this, you will have written like dark mode design adding in the propose new file. As you will do propose a new file then there will come a pull request option, you will have to do a pull request.

Forking in GitHub

You have done pull requests and there are all your files. If you have to do merge your file in that repository then you will have to send one request. When you will do pull requests then the front hand of your dark mode will be ready. When you will go to your profile beaproplayer so, you will see one pull request will have come there.

Analyzing the contributed code

If you will see a pull request, as well as one fork, will be there, what does it mean? If any contributor has to do contribute towards yourself so, how much contribute is happening as much fork happens. After this, you will go to pull request, you will see dark mode adding file there, what code has sent by the user? So, before, you will see about the code what is in that? You will move in a commit and see what is written in that code? There will be a dark mode design. Like this way, you will do verify that. After this, you will go to pull request and merge request, again you will do confirm request then your file will be merged from status open. After this, when you will go to code then your darkmode.txt file will have come which will be in the master branch. Those files will locate in your profile master branch and you can also see contributor or fork there. Like as your contribution happens and like this way, you can contribute to any project. When you will return back to your profile, below your profile activity option will exist there.

Merging the contributed code to the master branch

In your profile, every activity will show to you. Those files, you have added to it. If you would see in your profile changes will have happened and dark mode will have added to it. So, this is the contribution, you can do like this. You have seen, how can you do contribute to it and how can other users do contribute to your project. You have seen about all of these things.

Hello friends, welcome to the world of programming. Let’s start this. Like, you will have seen the title of the article. Today, I’m talking about GitHub, mainly talk will happen about GitHub. After that, you are taking to see some more platforms, those are like GitHub, that use of Git.

Unlimited private repositories

Therefore, go to GitHub and looking for the pricing, for pricing, we go to the plans & see the price. That GitHub was before 20I9, those were private repositories. They charged $7 for that but now that in the free plan unlimited public and private repositories, and unlimited collaborators so, here new features have come in 20I9 that are released. With unlimited public and private repositories, any user can make them in a free plan. Before 20I9, this plan was paid that if anyone wants to make private repositories so, they had to pay $7 for that then like as you can make in the free plan. There is one Gitlab, what is Gitlab? This is similar to GitHub. How much enough GitHub is famous? How much using it, how much Gitlab? one is a bit bucket which is given by atlas Ian, it is developed by atlas Ian. So, looking at the pricing of this, if you’re looking at the price of Gitlab. If you will look at there, those free plan is there. Look in that all stages of the DevOps cycle, it is also similar enough limit till the bit bucket, the pricing of this. Let’s take a look at the bit bucket.

Pricing of bit bucket

Looking pricing of this, what is the pricing of it? In the plan of free up to five users. Something pricing of it means nearly it is similar. You can use any platform but we will talk about GitHub, we are going to use GitHub. So, let’s look, what is GitHub? GitHub is mine. There if you will go to the home page of GitHub then built for the developer, it is come write as from before on the first page. It is open-source of your, the meaning of open source is one type you can agree that it is a Facebook of developers, you can understand like this way. If you search the code of Linux, there you will get the code of Linux.

Linux source code on GitHub

If you will search for the Linux, repositories of Torvalds on there. Those are like “Torvalds/ Linux“, they have uploaded there the source code of Linux. There is the full source code of Linux, you can see there how many times people have downloaded it. How much time commits? Even you can see an infinite number of contributors, how many releases and branches? Let’s understand about the numbers. How can you do it like, how can we do download, give own contributions? Right, how can we do that, we will see about these things. Now, we aren’t going to do GitHub in Linux, we shall see it as normal. How we do contributions and we make repositories. First, we do signup then for doing sign up, clicking on the signup option.

Create GitHub account

After clicking on the signup option, the signup page will open then you will get to create your account space. After this,

We will take a username like Beaproplayer024

Next, you will put Email address.

Again, let’s put password on it.

After putting in the password, we will click on verify account option. After verification, we have done create an account then you have to do verify it. They have verified you. There below you will do join the free plan, if you should want a free plan, you don’t need to take paid plan. There, they will ask some questions so, you should take to complete it. Suppose, they ask questions like what kind of work do you do, mainly, how much programming experience do you have, and what do you plan to use GitHub for. Now, you have to click on the complete setup option. After this, one verification will send to your Gmail account like Beaproplayer024@gmail.com then from there you come to Gmail for verification and you do the verification. After email verification, your id will be active so, doing the skip for now option, move to the profile section. Your profile will open and there you can put your own bio, company name, and location by doing the edit option. There is a place where shows your joined GitHub, contribution like as your contribution and activities, it shows you. What activities we do, it will show about that things.

Source:-https://portswigger.net

A new experiment by a Polish security researcher offers a fresh perspective on the well understood but still all too common problem of developers accidentally publishing secrets to code repositories.

Andrzej Dyjak recently ran an experiment to see how long it took before a secret committed to a public repository (such as API or cryptographic keys) was exploited.

An AWS key generated using the Thinkst Canary digital tripwire service was first compromised after 11 minutes when posted to GitHub, before getting repeatedly attacked thereafter.

A similar dummy secret went 62 minutes before suffering its first and only compromise on GitLab.

Dyjak used GitGuardian, a Git secrets scanning technology, during his experiment.

In the case of GitHub, Dyjak received an alert within seven minutes, and therefore before the first compromise, of possible secret leakage.

Time to pwnage
The time it takes for accidentally committed secrets on public repositories to being compromised has been the subject of previous, more extensive studies by North Carolina State University (PDF), IBM Research (PDF), and a GitHub honeypot exercise put together by security researcher Bob Diachenko.

Dyjak said that although people have focused on the honeypot part of his experiment, he was more interested in a comparison between the secret detection features of GitHub and GitLab.

“GitHub won – they caught the secret, alerted me, informed the provider, and on top of all that they also alerted me about vulnerable dependencies

“GitLab lost – it does offer similar SAST [static application security testing] features but they require setup of Auto DevOps which is a bottleneck.”

The Daily Swig approached both GitHub and GitLab for comment on this story, which we’ll update as and when more information comes to hand.

Dyjak deliberately leaked two secret API keys, attached to AWS and Slack, respectively.

“While AWS was compromised in both cases (GH and GL),” Dyjak reports, “Slack was not compromised in neither.”

This finding provides anecdotal evidence that adversaries are actively and selectively hunting for leaked AWS secrets rather than any inadvertently exposed tokens or credentials within code repositories.
