Friends as you already know that software development is a very huge and heavy process. There are so many innumerable moving parts of it. In order to improve the development process, we utilize the methodology of DevOps and its tools. In DevOps, there are so many phases. This is one of the most favorable phases as continuous integration which is willing to help you in coming all together with the parts of software development and manages all of them. Therefore, there is a very popular tool named ‘Jenkins’.

Jenkins is an open-source automation tool. Now, we will learn about continuous integration and using it in Jenkins. It is a phase of DevOps in which we are continuously doing integrate all of your software development processes in parts and take parts to combine all together. Well, we say combine but it actually controls through continuous integration.

What are the benefits of Jenkins?

Take a brief history of Jenkins. Jenkins was originally developed in 2004 by the sun microsystems company under the name Hudson. It had slowly gained popularity and had become one of the best developing tools out there. After this, the project was later named Jenkins when oracle bought microsystems and decided to keep Hudson & Jenkins as separate entities. It is now one of the most popular CI/CD tools in use out there. As we can see certain benefits are associated with:

Through the course tutorial, we get intact knowledge and practices that help you in working along with the Jenkins. It allows you to create build jobs on certain kinds of projects such as freestyle projects, pipelines, multi-configuration projects, multi-branch pipelines, folders, and GitHub organizations. After this we are getting benefitted from tutorials in two items, one is the Jenkins freestyle job it comes under many configures as general, source code management, build triggers, build environment, build, and post-build actions. Another is the pipeline, it comes with certain stages as CI/CD pipeline, Jenkins file, and Jenkins pipeline. I hope this will make you clearer to understand about the tool, their automation process, and software development process connections with different phases by using different plugins depending upon your needs.

Source:-https://www.theserverside.com

Given its need to integrate with a variety of network addressed services, the cloud is a smart place to install and run your CI/CD server.

Given the fact that Jenkins is one of the most popular, open-source, CI/CD servers on the market, combined with the fact that AWS provides a number of hosting options, it’s no surprise to find out that many DevOps professionals choose to run Jenkins on AWS. Unfortunately, do so isn’t as simple as it seems.

There are a variety of way to run Jenkins on AWS, from using a Docker container and running it on Kubernetes, or choosing to install the tool on one of the many Windows and Linux distributions provided as Amazon AMIs. There are pros and cons associated with each of these options, but in my opinion, the easiest way to run Jenkins on AWS is to host and manage it on an EC2 virtual image.

If you are content with Jenkins on an AWS EC2 image, the next question to ask is whether you want to install the software yourself, or pick from an image where the Jenkins stack is already installed? The latter is far and away the easier option.

Whenever I need to spin up an instance of Jenkins on AWS, I always use the preconfigured software stacks provided by Bitnami. Simply register with Bitnami, choose the Jenkins AMI stack, and choose to deploy to Amazon. Within a few minutes you are running a fully configured Jenkins stack on AWS. The cost is quoted at about $17.56 a month, which includes the use of a T2.small tier with 10 gigs of solid state storage and 2 gigs of memory.

For full control over the configuration of your CI/CD server, simply choose an EC2 image with the Windows or Linux distribution of your choice and follow the standard install steps. You will need to install the JDK first and set up JAVA_HOME. Then install Jenkins on the AWS hosted image.

enkins on AWS Ubuntu install steps

When the installation steps complete, you will have completed the install of Jenkins on AWS. Point a web browser at port 8080 of your EC2 image’s public IP address and log on to Jenkins. The world of continuous integration with Jenkins on AWS will be at your fingertips.

Source:-https://www.postandcourier.com

With an undergraduate population of a little over 3,200, USC Aiken has students with a vast array of political views which always has the opportunity to present some issues.

Samuel Boyd, USCA’s student body president, said he thinks the university’s community has put a lot of work into making it an environment where animosity is not the main form of communication.

“We’re not pressuring anyone to go one way or the other and we’re very open to the idea that you have your own ideas and not trying to force you one way,” Boyd said. “That’s, in my opinion, something that’s interwoven with the idea of higher education.”

Boyd said that he and the rest of the Student Government Association are working to make the student body more aware and that they all have the opportunity to vote. He also emphasized that there isn’t one main political view on campus.

“We have the individuals that are very passionate and unwilling to hear other people,” Boyd said. “But, as a general rule, I would say USC Aiken is kind of an outlier in higher education in the sense that there’s not one dominating view and people aren’t pushing that view on other people.”

Evan Jenkins, a senior at USC Aiken and the president of the political science club, agreed. He feels everyone can speak their mind and have discussions without backlash.

“I think as a freshman, it wasn’t like that for the whole campus,” Jenkins said. “But over four years, it has definitely gotten better about that.”

Amethyst Marroquin, a senior at USC Aiken and student coordinator at the Student Life Office of Diversity Initiatives, agreed with Jenkins.

“I think that over the past four years, students have learned how to communicate better about some things,” Marroquin said. “It went from ‘What should my response be?’ to a state of listening and trying to at least hear each other out.”

Jenkins brought up a recent campus event based around talking about political issues to people on the other side. The fact that the event was even held, Jenkins said, speaks to how open the campus is. He said the event maxed out on capacity.

“I think that event offered students some comfort that it’s possible for two people who disagree to not only coexist with one another but actively try to maintain social relationships,” Marroquin said. “That’s contrary to what we’re seeing in our personal relationships and on the news and things like that. I think that event offers students who need that advice or who need that reassurance that it’s okay to do this.”

Boyd said there was a debate watch party for the final presidential debate on Oct. 22 that was a bipartisan event.

“Respect was guaranteed because we said everybody be respectful,” Boyd said. “Everybody was able to listen. Even though people very clearly had different opinions on what was going on, there were no arguments, there was nothing breaking out. It was just like you have an opinion, I have an opinion.”

Jenkins also spoke about the watch party and said about 150 people showed up.

Asked about voting, Jenkins said he thinks it’s important because of the collective.

“Your specific vote, like your one vote, doesn’t change the whole outcome of an election but it’s more of like if a lot of people are thinking that way and they don’t vote, then who knows how many people are thinking that way?” Jenkins said. “That changes an entire election. It’s more of the collective. If this whole entire campus, no one voted, and they were all in Aiken or Edgefield County, that changes a lot of different things, whether thats for the right or the left side.”

Boyd said the SGA just wants everyone to get out and vote. He said they have been doing voter registration events to try and spread the word.

“Regardless of how the election goes, I think a lot of people are going to go out and vote from USC Aiken,” Boyd said.

Marroquin said she thinks politics is talked about frequently among student leaders and that higher education and college is the place to have those conversations.

“I think our university does a great job with encouraging students to think critically about issues,” Marroquin said. “Being an empathetic listener doesn’t excuse anyone’s behavior, but it gets down to the why. I think that among student leaders, we’re able to talk about politics because we’re empathetically listening. We’re not listening to argue or respond, but to listen and understand which I think this country could use more of.”

Source:-https://www.espn.in

The three-time Pro Bowl safety and two-time Super Bowl champion launched Broad Street Ventures on Wednesday. The fund focuses on late stage and growth stage technology and consumer products. It has already invested in Airbnb, Epic Games, Turo, NoBull, Automattic and ZenWtr.

Jenkins, a strong advocate for racial equality, hopes his newest business introduces more Black men and women to the venture capital world.

Jenkins and co-founder Ralonda Johnson recruited additional NFL players and industry leaders to represent the fund. Among them are defensive backs Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty of the New England Patriots, safety Rodney McLeod of the Philadelphia Eagles and free-agent wide receiver Jordan Matthews. Jenkins played with McLeod and Matthews in Philadelphia. Also, television broadcaster Sharrie Williams is part of the fund.

While less than 1% of American venture capital backed founders are Black, an even smaller percentage are women of color,” Jenkins told The Associated Press. “We need to break down those barriers, and this is why I’m proud to have Ralonda at the helm of Broad Street Ventures and Sharrie coming on board as an investor. Black women are helping to rewrite the narrative and we are inviting more Black women to the table to create generational wealth for themselves and others. This is an important initiative to me, as my businesses are not only run by strong women but also supported by women.”

Jenkins, who plays for the New Orleans Saints, and the McCourty twins have known each other since they played football against one another in high school in New Jersey.

“Malcolm is a guy off the field that has just done a ton for a ton of people, whether it’s his social justice work, his business stuff, his hand is always in something, so when he came to Devin and myself with this opportunity, it’s something that you don’t take lightly because if he’s in it, it’s something that’s probably bound to succeed,” Jason McCourty said.

I think one of the key things is us as athletes, especially in today’s world, the more we can broaden our horizons and step outside the box and create different avenues or just follow through on avenues that have already been created like something in venture capitalists as Black and brown athletes, I feel like we can do so much. And I think there are so many things that we don’t know they exist or we don’t think we can be a part of them, sometimes they hold us back. So I think this opportunity that Malcolm brought forward for myself and a few other guys to get involved with was just a no-brainer to try to see how much we can grow and see how much we can do off the field.”

Matthews, a second-round pick by the Eagles in 2014, began investing in real estate early in his NFL career. He wasn’t sure who to listen to regarding investing in the stock market until Jenkins presented him an opportunity to join his venture capital fund.

“When Malcolm brought this opportunity to me, it was a no-brainer,” Matthews said. “We dove right in and it’s been a really cool process. Knowing Malcolm’s heart behind it, I was like, `Oh, I’m 100 percent in on this.'”

Together, these skills map directly to SRE, DevOps engineer, and release engineer job responsibilities.

Prerequisites

Students should arrive with a working understanding of Jenkins, Kubernetes, and Docker before enrolling. If you need to fill gaps in any of those areas, the Linux Foundation offers free introductory courses that can serve as on-ramps:

Introduction to Jenkins (LFS167x) – free foundational Jenkins course.

Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure Technologies – covers core cloud and container concepts.

Introduction to Kubernetes – covers Kubernetes fundamentals needed to follow the cluster-deployment labs.

Carolin Lehmann shares her experience completing a marketing certificate program, including how flexible scheduling helps professionals build analytic and technical skills.

This post is part of the Jenkins MBA Spotlight Series, originally sourced from NCSU. The excerpt below reflects the original teaser content. Full source details may be found at North Carolina State University.

About the Spotlight Series

The Jenkins MBA Spotlight Series profiles students and professionals who are pursuing certificate and degree programs designed to sharpen both analytical and technical skills. These programs are aimed at individuals who want to improve organizational performance and make better, data-informed business decisions.

Carolin Lehmann: Marketing Certificate Student

Carolin Lehmann is featured as a student in the Jenkins MBA marketing certificate program. The program is structured around application-based learning, providing students with tools, frameworks, and ideas that directly support real-world business decision-making.

One of the program’s key selling points, as highlighted by Lehmann’s profile, is scheduling flexibility. Students can complete the required 12 credit hours on their own schedule, making the certificate accessible to working professionals who cannot commit to a traditional full-time program.

What the Marketing Certificate Covers

According to the source material, the Jenkins MBA marketing certificate is designed to help students:

Develop stronger analytic and technical skills applicable to marketing contexts

Improve organizational performance through better-informed decision-making

Apply business frameworks in practical, real-world scenarios

Complete a defined curriculum of 12 credit hours with schedule flexibility

Who Should Consider a Certificate Program Like This?

Certificate programs of this type are typically suited to professionals who already hold an undergraduate degree and want to upskill in a focused area without committing to a full MBA. For those in DevOps, engineering, or technical roles who are moving into product management, team leadership, or business strategy, a marketing or business certificate can help bridge the gap between technical execution and organizational decision-making.

The application-based approach described in Lehmann’s profile means students are expected to connect coursework directly to their workplace context — a format that tends to produce more immediately usable skills than purely theoretical study.
