Hello guys, welcome to the digital world of programming, today, you are going to learn about how to upload projects in GitHub and about local files which are in your system, we are going to teach you how can you upload that files to your GitHub repository. If you have an idea about commit, forks, pull request, merge, and branch. And how can you do contributions to projects? That’s ok, otherwise, you’re a beginner. So, it will be more beneficial to you than a pro user.

Creating a new GitHub repository

What you will do first, first you will make a repository. You have made a repository from the name of the programmer and after doing a public option, you have uploaded that. When the repository will have made, you will see that, if you will click on that, there will be not any code. So, you will copy that link from there & move it to the files where you have put some codes and wants to upload it.

How can you upload projects on GitHub?

If you want to upload some files related to code that you have kept in your eclipse then go to the team option and share that project. After sharing is done, you will go to the team option by doing one right-click and you will select the commit option. When you will do commit then there will come all your files which be selected by you. You will add that files in stage changes and after this, you can write some commands like programmer first commit. After doing so, you will do commit & push and fill up all the push branch matters by adding a remote name, URL links, host, id, and password for authentication, after that you will do checking by clicking on the preview option. You will see, there will be happening connections in the eclipse. After this, you will do push and close that and you will see your GitHub files by doing a refresh in that your programmer file will have uploaded along with all the files which are committed by you.

Push code to GitHub

You will see there, all the .txt files which are uploaded by you. If you will open all the .txt files to fetching in eclipse then you would be a wonder to see that all programs and commit will be available there. Whether you will check, there will be similar programs in both GitHub and eclipse. So this way, you can directly upload your files from the eclipse to the GitHub programmer repository. You have learnt many more things about GitHub. So, stay tuned for more information.

Hello folks, welcome to the exotic world of programming. Let’s take a move to the scene of the fork and its contribution in that how can we do fork and contribution in GitHub. If you would understand that each and every aspect of account creation, making a repository, and creating the branch in GitHub then this is the place where you can great ideology on the fork.

Adding more features

Suppose you have opened your profile and there is a repository of your like “GitHub training” and one of your files is there from the name of requirement.txt. So, you have to do designing of two features like dark mode and video calls but you don’t know how to do that? Then there is a contributor, it can make dark mode or one type of front hand. If anybody wants to contribute so, how will they do?

Contributing to the code

Suppose, you are a contributor and you are opened your own profile in the next browser. If you want to contribute to your GitHub project through your name like in beaproplayer and GitHub training then you will search like beaproplayer024/GitHub training in the GitHub search bar. So, there will have come of your repositories and requirement.txt file will open and from there you can create the file. When you will do create a file then the notification will come there like this way “you don’t have access to”. Because you have opened your own profile how can you get access to another profile id? You’re not a contributor and you have no right to doing changes in files. So, you will have to create a fork for this, what does it mean? It means that they have made a replica or you can say mirror for this. When you will do changes to this then one request will have to send to the beaproplayer024 profile. Suppose, you have to add a dark mode design, making a text file, you are making a darkmode.txt file. You are adding like designing, video calls, features adding and thanks, after this, you will have written like dark mode design adding in the propose new file. As you will do propose a new file then there will come a pull request option, you will have to do a pull request.

Forking in GitHub

You have done pull requests and there are all your files. If you have to do merge your file in that repository then you will have to send one request. When you will do pull requests then the front hand of your dark mode will be ready. When you will go to your profile beaproplayer so, you will see one pull request will have come there.

Analyzing the contributed code

If you will see a pull request, as well as one fork, will be there, what does it mean? If any contributor has to do contribute towards yourself so, how much contribute is happening as much fork happens. After this, you will go to pull request, you will see dark mode adding file there, what code has sent by the user? So, before, you will see about the code what is in that? You will move in a commit and see what is written in that code? There will be a dark mode design. Like this way, you will do verify that. After this, you will go to pull request and merge request, again you will do confirm request then your file will be merged from status open. After this, when you will go to code then your darkmode.txt file will have come which will be in the master branch. Those files will locate in your profile master branch and you can also see contributor or fork there. Like as your contribution happens and like this way, you can contribute to any project. When you will return back to your profile, below your profile activity option will exist there.

Merging the contributed code to the master branch

In your profile, every activity will show to you. Those files, you have added to it. If you would see in your profile changes will have happened and dark mode will have added to it. So, this is the contribution, you can do like this. You have seen, how can you do contribute to it and how can other users do contribute to your project. You have seen about all of these things.

Source:-https://www.techrepublic.com

If you are thinking about career goals for 2021 and looking at various certifications, consider spending that time and energy on volunteering time instead. Recruiter Taylor Desseyn often recommends that job seekers spend time contributing to open source projects instead of completing certifications. He thinks the ROI of writing code is higher and creates an edge in the hiring process.

“Take the time you are going to invest in a certification and take on free work and get that work in your GitHub,” he said. “What I’ve seen from employers is they would rather see real world work experience than a piece of paper.”

Leaders in the open source community back up that idea.Todd Moore, IBM’s vice president of open source, said code posted on GitHub becomes part of a developer’s resume.

“Code talks for itself,” he said. “You also can help with code reviews because making suggestions is a huge part of the open source process.”

Here is some advice from experts about how to start contributing code and volunteer time to the open source community and

Getting starting with GitHub

Sachin Gupta, HackerEarth’s CEO and co-founder, recommended starting small when picking an open source project to work on.

“It’s not recommended to pick up the big and famous projects because the scrutiny there is higher and the chances of your commits being accepted in the beginning are low,” he said. “Start with something as basic as contributing to documentation, patching a simple bug, or fixing comments.”

SEE: Top 5 programming languages for systems admins to learn (free PDF) (TechRepublic)

This helps someone new to open source start making contributions without the risk of the pull requests being rejected.

“Once a few contributions are accepted, you build confidence and demonstrate ability, which can create a feedback loop of success,” he said.

Gupta also recommends pushing side projects to GitHub, including any code written outside of work.

“One easy way to build out a Github profile is to participate in hackathons and push all your hackathon projects to Github,” he said. “It’s a great way of demonstrating skills to recruiters and hiring managers, and building your own coding skills.”

Some developers build out a simple resume using Github pages. Another option is to call out key GitHub contributions such as repos, stars, and commits on a traditional resume. Gupta also suggests linking your Github profile to other online developer profiles.

“These profiles help to merge specific experience with skills that can be quantified and more easily assessed,” he said.

Open source contributions and the hiring process
Gupta said that activity in the open source community does help hiring managers understand experience level and proficiency.

“For example, the types of repos that you have committed to show the complexity of the tasks you can complete, the frequency of contribution indicates your commitment to certain activities and whether you have a long-standing base of experience, and the languages/tech highlights your proficiency in certain types of skills,” he said.

Gupta said that developers who participate in hackathons at HackerEarth often submit their prototypes on Github, which illustrates a person’s ability to understand real world problems and tech integration capabilities.

Gupta also said that having prior information about a candidate’s Github projects can help hiring managers conduct better interviews.

“For instance, I could take a code snippet from their Github projects and use our interviewing product, FaceCode, to do a more meaningful pair programming interview based on the skills they demonstrate in that public forum,” he said.

Moore said that developers looking for a new job should look for companies that encourage employees to contribute to open source projects.

“GitHub works for everybody because it’s a virtuous cycle—it helps the community and helps your career,” he said.

Other ways to contribute to the community
Brendan O’Leary, GitLab senior developer evangelist, said that contributing code is only one of many ways developers can contribute to open source and gain meaningful experience.

“New developers have a unique position to take a look at documentation, READMEs, and other material outside of code with a fresh perspective and deliver value in contributions there,” he said.

O’Leary also recommends that developers who are early in their careers document their learning process by writing a blog post or making a video about a new skill.

“Not only will this cement your own knowledge, but it will also help others too and give you a chance to show off your ability to learn, which is one of the most critical skills for any software engineer,” he said.

O’Leary said that these contributions are still worthwhile, even though this kind of work doesn’t show up on a contribution graph.
