Hello techno-friendly users, welcome to the featuring era of programming. Today, we shall raise our points on the topic of […]

Hello techno-friendly users, welcome to the featuring era of programming. Today, we shall raise our points on the topic of branching and how directly you can establish your branch through the git command line without opening the GitHub platform. If you will also unaware to take git branching so, you have difficulties in relation to command branching then you can receive every kind of solution related to creating, merging, and adding branches. This is the place where you could get all steps regarding branch creations.

Creating branch from the command line

Suppose, you have to make a branch so, let’s have a look that what is branch happening? If you have software and you are working in google and that Google is working in a master branch, all files are running there. Suppose, you want to add a feature in the file but you are not so sure to talking that your boss will give you permission or not. If you do in the main file that will be affected on your main server, the file has become loose then your server will be shut down. So, here comes the talk of the branch, you will make a copy, the branch means making copies of the same file. Then first, you will write git status so, it will show on branch master, nothing to commit. When you will put $ git branch then it will show you in the master branch, if you have to make a branch so, you will put $ git branch update code then update code is branch name happen. So, again, you will run the $ git branch, there will be branches as master and update code that you have been made. If you have to do the switch in the update code so, you will have to put like $ git checkout update code then it will show you switched to branch ‘update code’ option. If you will move in the vs code file, you will do enhances in one then there will not be affected another file. Suppose, you have a file in the name contact.html, you have to write anything in that. You have been made a file in the name comment.html, you have paste similar code of your file and changed something code in that. If you will run git status then it will show you unstaged, when you will do commit through $ git commit –a –m “this update code files updated”. You will do update put anything message so, again, you will run git status then it will show you untracked files. Then you will first add that by putting $ git add –A when you will run git status, it will show you on branch update code nothing to commit, working tree clean. When you will do switch to the master branch then you will see what will happen with comment.html so, you will have to see two branches that you had made by putting $ git branch.

Merging two branch command

You had made a file in the name comment.html then it will happen in the update code branch. So, again, you will switch by putting $ git checkout master then they will have switched to branch ‘master’. When you will move to the vs code so, the comment.html file will not be there and also not visible in the file explorer because you had not that file in the master branch and you are updating that file in the update code. Again, you will do a checkout to update the code so, that the comment.html file will retrieve again in the vs code. This is the real meaning of branch, you can do switch, comment set up, add features also, and anything you want to do. Differently, you can make replicas of the project doing adding features in that, and after, you can merge them. Now, look at how can you do merge, what is merge means? Suppose, you have a project in the name comment.html in vs code, you have made that. You had made features in that boss has liked most, if they say that you have to give merge that with the master branch so, git has to give it directly. How does it do? So, what will be the command? First, you will see the git log by putting the $ git log then you will see files that will have been committed to those files you have done. By pressing Q, you have to give quit, first, you will have to move master. In master, you have to do merge update code then you will move by putting $ git checkout master so, it will have to give switch.

Now, one command is happen like $ git merge update code then you will have to go in the vs code that file has merged there. When you will have to give a close file from vs code then it will give to see you all files and features that have been added. That files were in an update code, you will see they have been shifted to master, whenever you will put git status then it will see on branch master, working tree clean. When you open vs code by putting $ code. Then you will see comment file will have arrived in the master branch. So, this real meaning happens of merge, it is a very good feature. Suppose, you are making a code differently or doing the work of some other person and after that, you have to do merge all of the codes then only you will put git merge along with branch name and from which branch. It’s happened only, git shows us all work from professionally or the good way how ideally you are making and doing file. Suppose, you have to make a file of a node in that all Html files would work as backhand, you have to do server-side logics and make something in backhand. So, for giving him the layout, you will make a file of nodes. First, separately, you will have to make a branch then you will write $ git branch, and again, you will put $ git branch node integration, your branch will make. You will again put git branch then the branching file will show now, you have to make a file, and the direct switch also. It means that you make a branch, you want to do a switch. So, one command that is happening is $ git –b nodeintegration.

Adding JavaScript branch

If you will put $ git –b nodeintegration then it will show checkout changes. When you will do $ git checkout node integration then it will be switched to branch node integration. You will make a file in the name $ touch node.js so, you will see a file has been made in a vs code. Suppose, you have written anything in that like

console.log (“this is the server-side language”)

console.log (“this is git hub training”)

You have done a server-side in the node integration branch. Now, what can you do? Normally, you can check that. Suppose, you do $ git checkout master then your file node configuration will vanish from the vs code. You have made a file then first, you will add by putting $ git add –A so, it will come in the staging area. Next, you will do it by putting $ git commit –m “this is server-side js file” then the file will be added so, you have committed all files. Suppose, you have to give branch change by adding $ git checkout master when you do switch from the master then the node.js file will have vanished because your file doesn’t exist in the master branch, it will exist in the node integration. Again, you will put as $ git checkout nodeintegration so, the file will be retrieved again in the vs code. It is the meaning of branch, and merge. You have looked at it.

Hello techies, welcome to the admiring concept of programming. Whether you are making commands and trying to learn commands for daily GitHub program but still you are in dilemma to take about git command that how can you control over them and become an expert in using the command. So, here is the place where you can get all stuff related to your command line that matters most in your GitHub.

Experimenting with different commands together

If you are using different commands then this process will make you prodigy with extra activity. Now, if you take command as $ git add –A then your file will come in the staging area. When you will select a command like $ git status so, it will show you, your new file comes there. Continuously, you will have to run the command git status and clear so that your command sees properly. If you have sent your file in the staging area then you have to check in the staging area so, you will look at command $ git status then your file will be in the staging area. Suppose, you have to remove from the staging area then one of the commands will happen such as $ git rm –cached, you will type this command with file name so, it will remove from the staging area. Again, you will run a command like $ git status then it will move to the unstaged and become an untracked file. Now, you will do one thing that Suppose, you want to add that file again which had been unstaged. So, your command will be $ git add A, and you want to do commit that. Then you will put $ git commit –m “This is a waste file so, this message will move in git commit. You can see through git log or if you want to see one file then you will type $ git log –p -1.

Removing staged files command

You will see there all add files. Suppose, you have to remove so, what will you do first? You will put like $ git rm –cached xyz.html then the file will vanish, which means they will remove from the staging area. Again, you will do commit, for commit what will be the command, you will put $ git commit -m “deleted the waste file xyz.html”. These are the git commit messages whose you are knowing that what is happened to which commits so, you have been deleted that. if you want to delete the file xyz.html from the hard disk where you have kept in the file explorer then you can put like $ git rm xyz.html then from where the file will be force removal. When you will type $ git rm –f xyz.html so, you will see that file will be deleted from the file explorer. If you will put a command like $ git status then it will show that everything will be committed. Suppose, you want to see short summary of status then you will put $ git status –s.

Shortcut of status

If you put $ git status –s then nobody will give you output unless your working tree is clean. Suppose, you have a file in the name of contact.html and done any changes in that to reaching vs code so, as you put like $ git status –s then it will show your file has been modified. So, again, you will add by $ git add –A when you will put $ git status –s then it will show both modified and add the file.

What is gitignore?

Now, we see that what is gitignore happen? First, you will make a file by $ git .gitignore then you will see in fetching vs code, there will be a file present in the name of .gitignore with a unique icon because it is given through GIT. You add such types of files in this which you have to do ignore them. Suppose, you have made files like log, text, images, and folder, if you want those files in the folder, they don’t track or commit them. So, what will you do? First, you will make a file like $ touch mylogs.log then you will see, there will be a file in the name my logs if you have been written anything commands like processing, download, and upload. You want these command which is in the log files not to be uploaded, when you will do –A then all will move to the staging area. What will you do in gitignore? You will only put the name of my logs file in the gitignore, when you will do track it through $ git status then it will show an untracked file. You will add .gitignore by putting $ git add –A, as you will put $ git status then all my logs file will be tracked. You can do as this suppose, you have made a file in the name of my logs.log then, again, you will run git status then it will not know your file is made or not before it was done. When you will make a file in the name of hello.html then anything you will write of Html file so, you will run git status then it will show hello.html file untracked and it is ignored mylogs.log file because you had put that file in the gitignore. There is a folder my logs, you only want under of that file be ignored, rest of the logs don’t be ignored then you will move to GIT ignore file and you will write my logs, by doing replace whatever there was written before. Again, you will run git status then it will show that it is ignoring my logs named folder under that files also, rest, it will show you my logs.Log file is untracked. This is the real meaning of gitignore, you can do so many things in that suppose, you have CPP files, you want to ignore them so, and you have put .cpp in the gitignore file then it will ignore all CPP file extension. Again, you want to ignore all log files then you will put *.log so, it will ignore all log files. When you will run git status then the untracked file will not show so, you will do a normal by $ git add –A. Again, you want to do ignore my logs that are unmodified and don’t happen commit then you will run git status so, you will know about which has been modified. So, directly you will run $ git commit –m “adding git ignore file” then your file will be committed.

CloudBees acquired feature flag platform Rollout in June 2019, giving CI/CD teams the ability to decouple feature releases from code deployments and safely test changes in production.

Originally announced June 11, 2019. Source: devops.com / CloudBees press release.

CloudBees Brings Feature Flag Management Into Its CI/CD Platform

CloudBees announced on June 11, 2019, that it had acquired Rollout, a feature management company whose platform gives developers and product teams fine-grained control over when specific features become visible to end users. The acquisition extended CloudBees’ continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) portfolio by addressing one of the last high-risk steps in software delivery: the moment a new feature is actually exposed to production traffic.

Why Feature Flags Matter in a CI/CD Pipeline

Continuous delivery solves the problem of getting code into production quickly, but it does not on its own control when users experience a new capability. Feature flags — sometimes called feature toggles — solve that gap. A flag is a conditional in the codebase that routes traffic to either the old or new code path based on rules defined at runtime, without requiring a redeployment.

This separation of code deployment from feature release has several practical advantages for engineering and product teams:

Incremental rollouts: Expose a new feature to 1%, 10%, or 50% of users before a full release, limiting blast radius if something goes wrong.

Instant rollback: Turn a feature off at the flag level without reverting a deployment or executing a hotfix release cycle.

Production testing: Run A/B experiments or canary tests against real traffic to gather behavioral data before committing to a feature.

Trunk-based development: Developers merge incomplete features behind a flag, keeping the main branch always releasable.

Cross-platform control: Flags can govern feature exposure on web, backend services, and mobile clients from a single control plane.

Forrester Research noted in a January 2019 report (AD&D Pros: Stop Guessing And Start Experimenting, Christopher Condo and Bill Seguin) that “getting ideas in front of users faster — ‘continuous discovery’ — is the new normal,” and that feature flags give application development and delivery teams “complete control of when to expose a particular feature to users, allowing administrators to turn it on and off at the flip of a switch.”

What Rollout Brought to the Table

Rollout positioned itself as a developer-first feature management platform with an emphasis on security and ease of integration. Key capabilities included:

SDK-based feature flag implementation compatible with multiple languages and mobile platforms.

Targeting rules that let teams segment rollouts by user attributes, geography, account tier, or custom properties.

Audit trails and governance controls suited to regulated or enterprise environments.

Instant kill-switch rollback that operates independently of the deployment pipeline.

These capabilities complemented CloudBees’ existing Jenkins-based CI/CD tooling by closing the loop between pipeline automation and controlled feature exposure.

Strategic Rationale for CloudBees

Sacha Labourey, CEO and co-founder of CloudBees, framed the acquisition around risk reduction: “Our goal is to help organizations deliver great, feature-rich software efficiently while minimizing risks associated with the deployment process. The acquisition of Rollout gives CloudBees customers the flexibility to decouple features from software versions.”

Erez Rusovsky, CEO and co-founder of Rollout, joined CloudBees as product director for the Rollout offering. He described the combination as additive: “Feature flags and CI/CD combined help companies truly become continuous and increase the pace of innovation.”

From a market positioning perspective, the deal signaled that end-to-end software delivery management must extend beyond pipeline automation to include runtime feature control. Organizations practicing trunk-based development or pursuing high deployment frequencies need a governance layer that keeps releases safe after the pipeline finishes.

How Feature Flags Fit Into a Modern DevOps Workflow

A typical integration of feature flags into a CI/CD pipeline looks like this:

Development: The engineer wraps new functionality in a feature flag. The flag defaults to
off
, so the code ships without user impact.

CI: Automated tests run against both flag states (
on
and
off
) to prevent regressions in either code path.

CD / Deployment: The artifact is deployed to production with the flag still
off
. No user-visible change occurs.

Controlled release: The product or ops team enables the flag for an internal test group, then expands to a percentage of users, monitoring error rates and business metrics.

Full release or rollback: If metrics are healthy, the flag rolls out to 100% and is eventually removed from code. If something breaks, the flag is turned off instantly—no deployment required.

This workflow eliminates the “big-bang” release model, where all users receive an untested change simultaneously, in favor of a controlled drip that surfaces problems early with limited exposure.

Context: CloudBees’ Broader Platform at the Time

At the time of the acquisition, CloudBees described itself as the largest contributor to Jenkins and Jenkins X and a founding member of the Continuous Delivery Foundation (CDF). Its customer base included over 3,500 organizations and more than 50% of the Fortune 500, according to the company’s own figures. The Rollout acquisition was part of a broader strategy to build what CloudBees called a “software delivery management” (SDM) system that covers the full lifecycle from code commit to production feature exposure.

Key Takeaways for DevOps Teams

Feature flags are a risk management tool as much as a developer productivity tool; they decouple the binary choice of “deploy or don’t deploy.”

Integrating flag management into a CI/CD platform (rather than bolting it on afterward) enables consistent governance, audit logging, and policy enforcement across the delivery pipeline.

The acquisition reflected growing industry recognition that deployment frequency alone is not sufficient—controlled feature exposure is the final mile of safe continuous delivery.

Teams evaluating feature flag platforms should assess SDK coverage for their target platforms (web, mobile, backend), targeting granularity, rollback latency, and integration depth with their existing CI/CD tooling.
