Source:-https://pandaily.com/

According to data made available by Canalys on June 23, the expenditure on cloud infrastructure services in the Chinese market grew by 55% in the first quarter of 2021, reaching $6 billion. As the Chinese government has made cloud computing its top strategic priority, it has promoted the development of cloud infrastructure services, with the Chinese market growing faster than the rest of the world.

China is the second largest market after the United States, accounting for 14% of global investment, higher than 12% in the first quarter of 2020. The country’s four major cloud service providers are Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud and Baidu AI Cloud, which together account for more than 80% of the total expenditure.

Canalys pointed out that Alibaba Cloud led the market with a 40% share, but its growth slowed to 38% in the first quarter. This is due to the termination of the contract by a major customer to comply with data ownership requirements outside China. Alibaba Cloud is also under strict scrutiny from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation, which led to a fine in April for violating anti-monopoly laws.

Huawei Cloud achieved the biggest increase in the quarter, surging 116% and accounting for 20% of the market share. Its rapid growth benefits from Internet customers and government projects, as well as major victories in the automotive industry. Huawei is currently building its largest data center facility in the Guian New Area, Guizhou province, to provide services for Southwest China.

Tencent ranks third with a 14% share. Baidu AI Cloud is the fourth largest cloud service provider, accounting for 7% of the total expenditure in the first quarter of 2021.

Cloud computing has been growing rapidly for many years, as more and more companies seek to work remotely, improve efficiency through automation and save money on IT infrastructure. According to a 2021 Gartner report, it is estimated that the global end-user expenditure on public cloud services will increase by 23.1% to $332.3 billion in 2021 from $270 billion in 2020.

According to Gartner, Google occupied 5% of the cloud infrastructure market in 2019, while Amazon had 45% and Microsoft had about 18%.

“Companies can use these services without purchasing or installing physical infrastructure. They can get exactly what they need when they need it, and expand or reduce services as demand changes,” said Dr. Scott Overmyer, Associate Dean of Information Technology at Southern New Hampshire University.

Source:-https://stockhouse.com/

ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW), the leading digital workflow company that makes work, work better for people, has been named a Leader in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Center. This is the second consecutive year that ServiceNow has been recognized as a Leader for its Customer Service Management (CSM) solution. According to a 2021 Gartner Market Share report, ServiceNow’s market share in worldwide revenue grew 75.6% in the Customer Service and Support market in 2020.

Transforming customer service requires looking at the end-to-end customer experience from initial engagement through issue resolution. Organizations traditionally focus on the engagement layer of customer service, which involves how customers make requests and how agents perform on the phone and in chats. Delivering great customer experiences also requires streamlining and automating the other critical aspect of customer service – fulfilling customers’ requests – which is performed in the customer operations layer.

ServiceNow offers a unique set of capabilities, enabled by digital workflows, that unite front-, middle- and back-office teams to simplify engagement, solve issues quickly and fix problems before customers notice they exist.

“Speed, agility and efficiency are must-have requirements for customer service in today’s environment,” said John Ball, SVP and GM of Customer Workflow Products at ServiceNow. “Powered by the Now Platform, ServiceNow delivers a complete solution for customer engagement and operations to improve the end-to-end customer experience and drive operational efficiency across industries.”

ServiceNow Customer Service Management is expected to be a $1B annual contract value (ACV) business for the company with an ACV run rate of more than $400 million as of the end of 2020. More than 1,500 customers use ServiceNow Customer Workflow products to modernize their customer service operations and drive customer loyalty, including AT&T, Capita Software, Lloyds Bank and Swarovski.

ServiceNow believes Gartner’s recognition of its CSM portfolio validates its approach to enhancing customer experiences by connecting customer engagement and customer operations with digital workflows.

ServiceNow has continued to enhance and evolve its CSM offering, with innovations including:

Workforce Optimization provides clear visibility into performance, makes customer service operations more efficient and gives managers actionable tools to manage their most important resource–people.
Process Optimization enables organizations to visually discover bottlenecks and inefficiencies where automation and streamlined workflows can improve the end-to-end customer experience.
Engagement Messenger for CSM provides contextual services and allows customers to both natively embed self-service into any web application and have the ability to escalate to human assistance. This capability powers knowledge management, service catalog, live chat and virtual agents, all through a consumer-grade experience.

Source:-https://www.businesswire.com/

PALO ALTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Data Theorem, Inc., a leading provider of modern application security, today announced that its Cloud Secure cloud-native security solution has won the 2021 Fortress Cyber Security Award. The industry awards program identifies and rewards the world’s leading companies and products that are working to keep our data and electronic assets safe among a growing threat from hackers.

Cloud Secure is the industry’s first solution delivering attack surface management security for cloud-native applications that starts at the client layer (mobile and web), protects the network layer (REST and GraphQL APIs), and extends down through the underlying infrastructure (cloud services). Its combination of attack surface management and defensive protections enables both offensive and defensive security capabilities to best prevent data breaches of cloud-native applications and serverless cloud functions.

“We are so proud to name Data Theorem’s Cloud Secure as a winner in the 2021 Fortress Cyber Security Awards program,” said Maria Jimenez, Chief Nominations Officer, Business Intelligence Group. “As our society continues to evolve and become more reliant on networks and data, companies such as Data Theorem are critical at providing the protection and trust consumers demand.”

For information about the annual Fortress Cyber Security Awards, please visit https://www.bintelligence.com/fortress-cyber-security-awards.

“Looking at Data Theorem’s long list of analyst and industry award honors, it is particularly gratifying to be recognized in programs such as Business Intelligence Group’s Fortress Cyber Security Awards program, where winners are determined by business executives that have experience and knowledge in the industry,” said Doug Dooley, Data Theorem COO. “Cloud Secure shined against the competition in the program’s unique scoring system for its unique innovations securing public cloud environments and the enterprise applications that depend on those cloud services. Organizations turn to Data Theorem to protect their cloud applications due to the benefits of our dynamic and run-time analysis with offensive attack surface management and defensive protection toolkits. This enables organizations to conduct continuous, automated security inspection and remediation of their most important cloud-native applications.”

Data Theorem’s broad AppSec portfolio protects organizations from data breaches with application security testing and protection for modern web frameworks, API-driven microservices and cloud resources. Its solutions are powered by its award-winning Analyzer Engine, which leverages a new type of dynamic and run-time analysis that is fully integrated into the CI/CD process, and enables organizations to conduct continuous, automated security inspection and remediation.

Business Intelligence Group
The Business Intelligence Group was founded with the mission of recognizing true talent and superior performance in the business world. Unlike other industry award programs, these programs are judged by business executives having experience and knowledge. The organization’s proprietary and unique scoring system selectively measures performance across multiple business domains and rewards those companies whose achievements stand above those of their peers.

Data Theorem
Data Theorem is a leading provider of modern application security. Its core mission is to analyze and secure any modern application anytime, anywhere. The award-winning Data Theorem Analyzer Engine continuously analyzes APIs, Web, Mobile, and Cloud applications in search of security flaws and data privacy gaps. Data Theorem products help organizations prevent AppSec data breaches. The company has detected more than 1 billion application eavesdropping incidents and currently secures more than 8,000 modern applications for its enterprise customers around the world. Data Theorem is headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., with offices in New York and Paris.

Source:-https://devops.com/

DevOps isn’t just a cultural shift — it requires great tools to come to fruition. Below, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the most well-loved DevOps tools available today. But, throwing loads of money into fancy SaaS solutions can quickly gobble up the cloud budget. These DevOps tools all are open source, and enable everything from container builds and orchestration to microservices networking, configuration management, CI/CD automation, full-stack monitoring and more. Here are some of our favorite open source DevOps tools for 2021.

1. Kubernetes
With the ubiquity of microservices and container-based software, it’s no surprise that Kubernetes tops this year’s list of open source DevOps tools. Kubernetes, adoption of which rose by 48% in 2020, is used to orchestrate containers. Instead of releasing microservices manually, Kubernetes can automate deployment, maintenance and scaling of groups of containers in production. Kubernetes, sometimes written as K8s, is hosted by the Cloud-Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).

2. Docker
Docker, the software, is a free and open source platform used to build, ship and run an application as a lightweight container. Containers package up the binaries, libraries, configuration files and dependencies required for a program to run. Over the past decade, containers have played a key role in agile development, and Docker containers led the revolution. At its core is the Docker Engine. Docker Hub is also an excellent resource for finding and sharing prepackaged functions as containers. Also, to plug container vulnerabilities, it may be helpful to use open source container auditing tools like Docker Bench or Anchore.

3. Istio
Microservices are a handy development style, yet they bring new development and architecture concerns. Namely, how do we apply networking policies like security, encryption, observability and telemetry elements consistently across all our services? Well, service mesh is one answer. Service mesh places a sidecar proxy next to each container and abstracts these networking capabilities to a control plane. Istio is one such open source service mesh that has seen widespread adoption. Istio is built on Envoy, opening it up to plugins and extensibility options. We should also mention Linkerd and Kuma as viable open source service mesh alternatives.

4. GitHub Actions
GitHub is arguably the most popular source control and software collaboration platform on the planet. The GitHub platform itself, based on Git, has seen some significant updates in the past few years. Most notable is the GitHub Actions capability. GitHub Actions enable software packages hosted on GitHub to accept inputs and trigger other processes. This could help automate some cool DevOps workflows within GitHub, such as code reviews, branch management or CI/CD processes — the combinations of possibilities here are endless. GitHub Actions are, essentially, YAML files hosted in GitHub repositories that leverage GitHub webhooks. Though this is more of a feature than an open-source tool, we feel it’s important to include here. Actions is free for public repositories with a limit of 100 actions.

5. Jenkins
A big part of the DevOps philosophy is finding ways to automate and deploy new iterations more efficiently. Part of this goal is creating a streamlined continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline. Jenkins is an open source automation server with hundreds of plugins to automate the building, deployment and testing of software projects. Although GitHub Actions could theoretically replace a CI server in the future, CI tools like Jenkins, CircleCI, TravisCI and GitLab Community Edition still are preferred by many DevOps teams.

6. Prometheus
Metrics and alerting systems are crucial for site reliability engineers to visualize applications and react to issues. Prometheus, a graduated CNCF project, is a well-loved open source monitoring solution. A Prometheus server collects time-series metrics by scraping HTTP endpoints and generates a system to interact with this data, offering deep querying, visualization, storage and other capabilities. Check out this Awesome Prometheus list for Prometheus introductions and additional resources.

7. Ansible
Ansible is all about automation. Ansible, an open source project sponsored by Red Hat, can be used to automate things like cloud provisioning, networking, deployment, configuration management and other tasks. Ansible has a simple yet effective architecture that is relatively easy to assemble — all you need is a text editor and command line. You describe your infrastructure in a text document and organize your desired states in a playbook. For an example in practice, see how OpenIO uses Ansible. “Ansible is our standard tool not only to deploy the OpenIO core, but also our WebUI, OIO-FS and all upcoming options,” writes Cédric Delgehier, Ops at OpenIO.

8. Chef
Chef is another infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solution for automating your configuration management. Chef uses Ruby to automate server configurations and works well with all major cloud service providers (CSPs). This can be very useful when creating and provisioning large quantities of machines. Like other automation tools on this list, the user describes their components and their states in a declarative format. In Chef, these are known as “recipes,” which can be grouped together into “cookbooks.” You can’t diss Chef for not being on-theme!

9. Terraform
Terraform is another IaC tool that can be used for initiation of building, versioning and further automation using configuration files. “Terraform is a tool for building, changing and versioning infrastructure safely and efficiently,” as it is described on GitHub. Terraform follows an “execution plan” that a user creates with high-level syntax. One unique aspect of Terraform is its emphasis on versioning — this allows you to version the blueprint of your service just as you would your software.

10. JAMStack
As I’ve covered before, JAMStack combines JavaScript, APIs and markdown for constructing web-based applications. While more of a “headless development” methodology than a single open source tool, JAMStack projects are often built using open source components. For example, JAMStack often leverages open source headless content management systems such as Ghost, Strapi and/or Netlify CMS.

11. ELK Stack
ELK Stack is the union of three open source projects maintained by Elastic: Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana. With these three components, developers can take in and log data from any source and create helpful visualizations. This centralized logging is enabled with a NoSQL database for storage with Elasticsearch, processing and data collection with Logstash and visualization with Kibana. Increased visibility is vital for data analysis and helps identify errors to reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR).

Rounding Out The DevOps Toolchain for 2021
Programming isn’t only about shipping quality code, it’s about efficient execution. This drive to improve operations across the board is truly putting Ops into everything. With awesome open source DevOps tooling, it means more and more architects can adopt a DevOps approach within their deployment models.

DevOps as a practice, as well as its underlying technology, is always evolving. In 2021, a lot of effort is being placed on wrangling the effects of introducing a microservices development style. We’ve noticed the maturation of container orchestrators and service mesh, as a result. Blueprinting infrastructure-as-code and creating automated, repeatable configurations is another must-have for implementing automated build and release pipelines. Not to mention, many no-code and low-code platforms are opening up DevOps capabilities to non-programmers, albeit from a proprietary perspective.

It’s also helpful to note that some popular open source DevOps tools have been acquired — like Docker and Chef — blurring the lines between their business and their open source roots. When it comes to open source tools, it’s a good practice to adopt vendor-neutral tools with solid community support representing diverse stakeholders. This will help future-proof your project. Even though open source is “free,” users must ensure the benefits outweigh the time-to-onboard as well as the operational overhead of self-hosting.

DevOps tools are beneficial to automate software deployment. Here, we’ve attempted to list some of the most exciting tools to help automate that process. Of course, many new tools are emerging in the DevOps space, and we have hardly scratched the surface. Do you have a favorite DevOps tool that’s not mentioned above? Let us know in the comments below!

Source:-https://cloudcomputing-news.net/ Businesses are at a pivotal moment in time. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that global GDP shrank by […]

Source:-https://cloudcomputing-news.net/

Businesses are at a pivotal moment in time. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that global GDP shrank by 4.4% in 2020, and contraction in the most advanced economies is estimated to be 5.8%. Today, however, vaccine availability and distribution brings us the brightest glimmer of hope yet that slowing the devastation of the virus may be a reality. More effectively addressing the health crisis also means economic recovery is becoming a stronger possibility – if businesses can lean into change and embrace new ways of working.

To enable this recovery, organisations across every industry are accelerating their shift to digital solutions. Turning to cloud technology promises to solve their most challenging problems and enable opportunities amidst changing customer demands and regulatory frameworks. In fact, McKinsey estimates the pandemic has fueled a three- to four-year acceleration of companies adopting digital technologies to support their customer and supply chain interactions. The most innovative companies need to rethink how employees collaborate and how they can digitise customer experiences.

Here are three key ways in which companies can use technology to their advantage and fuel their own recovery.

Businesses need to lower their costs and replatform for the future
Macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties create unknowns for every business. As a result, CEOs and CFOs are naturally seeking to optimise areas of their organisations.

Buying, maintaining and upgrading the technology infrastructure needed to run a business is not only difficult, but increasingly it is prohibitively expensive. Fixed IT systems require users to accurately predict their future needs, which now seem out-of-touch with our ever-changing business landscape. By contrast, a cloud server ensures that you only invest in the right amount, enabling users to flexibly adjust their consumption to meet fluctuating demands. This allows businesses to reinvest the remaining capital in creating customer experiences that will drive value creation. Gartner estimates that infrastructure-as-a-service is expected to grow 27.6% in 2021, precisely because of these cost savings and operational efficiencies – two of the greatest benefits of moving to the cloud.

Additionally, companies are realising the potential of a multicloud strategy. This set-up allows businesses to achieve an open, secure and agile infrastructure that can run in any environment, on any cloud. To grow and innovate within a company may mean moving entire on-premise IT infrastructure to the cloud, to transform digital operations.

Every business needs a digital front door
The remote nature of our lives—which is a permanent shift—is compelling businesses to use data and analytics to understand their customers better, overall enriching the customer experience.

Lockdowns have accelerated customer preferences for digital alternatives. Face-to-face customer service – a physical front door- is no longer enough to sustain a growing business. Today, customers also demand a ‘digital entrance’, and it’s transcending virtually every industry. In retail, companies are using AI and machine learning to deliver a better, more accurate online experience. Healthcare providers need secure, scalable platforms that support digital patient visits known as telemedicine.

Digital front doors are also changing the way governments work, like leveraging the cloud to distribute unemployment insurance online. With digitisation comes the opportunity for businesses to use data and analytics to make smarter decisions and get closer to their customers by creating more useful and productive experiences. By investing in innovative digital front doors now, companies will remain agile throughout the pandemic, whilst pivoting with changing customer expectations. Companies should celebrate the ease of digital experiences, which are personalisable and in no way mean a sacrifice on quality.

Companies need to embrace new ways of working
The future of work—and, for that matter, the definition of “workplace” itself—has transformed. While the pandemic as we know it will one day subside, our new way of working is here to stay, and it’s heightened the need to rethink how people get things done. We see the need for a new hybrid work environment, where companies and employees can use a digital workspace that allows them to collaborate on a flexible, cloud-native platform to generate new ideas and connect with each other. A successful transition into this new era of work is contingent on how successfully companies keep their people engaged, productive, and connected while reevaluating existing communication and collaboration tools.

No one can predict what the coming years will bring, but companies can control how they respond to uncertainty by investing in agile infrastructure that keeps people and connection at the heart of their operations. At this inflection point in the story of work, the ways in which each company responds to the challenges and opportunities it brings will define their relevance in the future. Those who lean into change, no matter how uncomfortable, and embrace the opportunity to fundamentally transform, will be stronger than before.

Source:-https://devops.com/ DevOps is a natural target for AI-driven efficiencies, as it involves frequently repeated processes that generate mountains of data. […]

Source:-https://devops.com/

DevOps is a natural target for AI-driven efficiencies, as it involves frequently repeated processes that generate mountains of data. It seems reasonable to expect that, like other domains that require decisions to be made based on large volumes of data, AI will play an important role in DevOps, too.

Definitions of AI vary considerably, so you can’t be blamed if you’ve sat through a discussion of AI and DevOps and still don’t understand exactly how the two intersect. But the bottom line is that AI will prove most useful in situations where there’s lots of data generated by, or passing through, a repeatable process. Humans are pretty good at identifying heuristics to help them make reasonable decisions based on patterns in data. But machine learning (ML) techniques bring with them the promise of teasing out inherent characteristics that underpin the data, and that are often impossible for humans to observe.

There are two main points in the DevOps process where large amounts of data are generated, and where machine learning would be most useful when applied: testing and release and monitoring.

Testing and Releasing
Deployment packages: AI can analyze trends in what is actually being deployed. My company, Gearset, is a DevOps solution for development on the Salesforce platform. In that context, AI could track the items of Salesforce metadata a team usually deploys, and optimize requests for retrieving that metadata from its org based on those items, speeding up comparisons and deployments, and, ultimately, release cadence.
Deployment errors: At Gearset, increasing deployment success rates is a constant focus. To that end, we aggregate and analyze data from deployment errors to identify the most common deployment-blocking errors. We then build problem analyzers that suggest automatic fixes to users. With machine learning running on telemetry data, we could more rapidly identify other patterns of use that trigger common deployment errors, and suggest new problem analyzers we should build, boosting deployment success rates still higher.
Static code analysis: Static code analysis generates data about the quality and security of new code, judged against a ruleset. Within Gearset, Salesforce developers can choose and customize the PMD rules they want in their ruleset, so they’re warned about the code quality issues they care about. But richer insights would be possible with AI, such as high-priority areas for improvement and refactoring based on trends in code quality and security.

Monitoring
Infrastructure monitoring. Huge amounts of data can be generated from DevOps monitoring. It’s easier to know what to focus on with AI-driven insights into performance log monitoring. Pattern recognition can also predict usage growth and help with capacity planning.
Security. This has been a key area for innovation in recent years, with the development of products that use machine learning to enhance threat detection, intrusion detection and vulnerability database compilation.
Unit testing. Gearset provides tools for monitoring code in Salesforce, such as automated unit testing, which reveals when code is no longer executing as intended. AI could identify patterns in the logs and suggest areas of the codebase that appear to require attention.
Change monitoring. Changes in the codebase, whether expected or unexpected, are tracked by change monitoring and backup jobs. Gearset currently has smart alerts on backup jobs that users can manually set up to be warned of changes or deletions that are unusual, both in terms of the kinds of records being deleted and how many. But AI could automatically spot anomalous and unusual patterns of churn that should be investigated.

In summary, AI promises to accelerate innovation in the areas where we currently use data-driven insights to improve the performance of DevOps tools and processes. The result will be even higher deployment success rates leading to increased agility, better code quality and performance, and enhanced security.
