Source:-https://www.businesswire.com/

PLEASANTON, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Accurics, the cloud cyber resilience specialist, today announced a technology partnership with GitLab, a single application for the DevOps lifecycle, as well as the general availability of its integration with GitLab’s Static Application Security Testing (SAST) solution. Accurics leverages the integration with GitLab to provide DevSecOps teams with a holistic, contextualized view of application and infrastructure risks. Organizations can now establish and programmatically enforce consistent risk management policies throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) while minimizing the effort and expense of manual triage and investigation.

Cloud infrastructure and applications are traditionally deployed from two separate pipelines, which dissociates application security vulnerabilities from Infrastructure as Code (IaC) misconfigurations. As a result, developers are often left with a long list of vulnerabilities and misconfigurations to fix without the context required to prioritize remediation of those vulnerabilities and misconfigurations that could actually be exploited.

“The most effective innovation is often incremental – for example, new capabilities and additional functionality accompanied by relevant security advances,” said Om Moolchandani, Co-founder, CTO & CISO at Accurics. “In this environment, we see diverse and largely unconnected vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, collectively producing a level of noise that makes identifying the most serious risks vital but difficult. The partnership with GitLab serves to add greater context to every layer of code and strengthens the security risk posture throughout the extended development lifecycle.”

The integration with GitLab helps Accurics users overcome these challenges by correlating IaC, cloud, and SAST vulnerabilities to help mitigate risk throughout the SDLC and generate a threat score. This threat score can be used by policy guardrails established with Policy as Code, blocking the riskiest builds from being deployed into production while providing insight into less risky problems that don’t warrant breaking the build. As a result, developers are able to focus resources on remediating the most immediate threats first.

“The growing adoption of GitOps practices and Infrastructure as Code necessitates scalable risk management tools,” said Nima Badiey, Vice President, Global Alliances at GitLab. “The integration between GitLab and Accurics will help customers to programmatically define infrastructure and risk management policies more effectively throughout the software development lifecycle.”

At Accurics™, we envision a world where organizations can innovate in the cloud with confidence. Our mission is to enable organizations to achieve cloud cyber resilience with developer-first security that self-heals the cloud. The Accurics platform programmatically detects infrastructure misconfigurations and contextualizes the findings with application risks to identify breach paths throughout the development lifecycle. It automatically generates code to remediate issues and applies the fix in the development pipeline. Accurics enables organizations of all sizes to achieve developer-driven cloud cyber resilience through cloud-based and open source tools such as Terrascan

Source:-https://www.globenewswire.com/

SAN FRANCISCO, June 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — GitLab Inc., the company that offers the single application for the DevOps lifecycle, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner in the Challengers quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by Gartner as a Challenger in the 2021 Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing report and excited to see what we believe to be validation of our unique and holistic approach to embedding security into the DevOps workflow,” said David DeSanto, senior director, product management – development and security at GitLab. “We believe our recognition as a Challenger in the Magic Quadrant represents a growing understanding of the value of enabling developers to find and fix vulnerabilities within their native workflow while at the same time providing visibility and early insight to security teams into their organization’s overall risk.”

According to the report, “Gartner defines the application security testing (AST) market as the buyers and sellers of products and services designed to analyze and test applications for security vulnerabilities.”

GitLab’s approach to application security testing is unique and sets new standards for DevSecOps. GitLab is the first to provide comprehensive application security testing built into the developer workflow with a focus on making security vulnerability details approachable for the developer. GitLab’s single application for the DevOps lifecycle includes static application security testing (SAST), secret detection, code quality, dynamic application security testing (DAST), software composition analysis (SCA), container scanning, API fuzzing, protocol fuzzing, and coverage-guided fuzzing. In addition to application security testing technologies, GitLab offers dependency lists (e.g., software build of materials (SBOM)) and vulnerability management, critical for enterprise security risk management. The GitLab platform is regularly replacing many traditional incumbent application security testing vendors as organizations recognize the value of application security testing that is integrated into their DevOps processes right out of the box. GitLab provides the visibility and controls necessary to protect the integrity of customers’ applications, software factory, supply chain, and deliverables.

Evaluation criteria for ability to execute includes product or service, overall viability, sales execution/pricing, market responsiveness/record, marketing execution, customer experience and operations. Evaluation criteria for completeness of vision includes market understanding, marketing strategy, sales strategy, offering (product) strategy, business model, vertical/industry strategy, innovation and geographic strategy.

Gartner
Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in our research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings or other designation. Gartner research publications consist of the opinions of Gartner’s research organization and should not be construed as statements of fact. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

GitLab
GitLab is the open DevOps platform built from the ground up as a single application for all stages of the DevOps lifecycle enabling Product, Development, QA, Security, and Operations teams to work concurrently on the same project. GitLab provides a single data store, one user interface, and one permission model across the DevOps lifecycle. This allows teams to significantly reduce cycle times through more efficient collaboration and enhanced focus.

Built on Open Source, GitLab works alongside its growing community, which is composed of thousands of developers and millions of users, to continuously deliver new DevOps innovations. GitLab has an estimated 30 million+ users (both Paid and Free) from startups to global enterprises. Companies, including Ticketmaster, Jaguar Land Rover, NASDAQ, Dish Network, and Comcast, trust GitLab to deliver great software faster. All-remote since 2014, GitLab Inc. has more than 1,300 team members in approximately 68 countries.

Source:-https://www.interiordesign.net/ In a recent ThinkLab Clubhouse session, Sascha Wagner, president and CEO of Huntsman Architectural Group, shared this insightful remark […]

Source:-https://www.interiordesign.net/

In a recent ThinkLab Clubhouse session, Sascha Wagner, president and CEO of Huntsman Architectural Group, shared this insightful remark about the future of remote work: “We believe in the power of place. This speaks to the idea that space can do more than fulfill functional needs—it helps convey values, bring people together, and empower a sense of cohesion and belonging. What’s more, space can actually become part of the cultural manifest of an organization. So, while the past year has shown us that we can positively embrace remote work, we are confident that group activities, visual and tactical work, and work that relies on an in-person sense of connection will continue to thrive in the built environment.”

His sentiments are supported by a recent study by PWC, which shares that by July 2021, “75 percent of executives anticipate that at least half of office employees will be working in the office.” So, if the future is hybrid work, what will that look like? And how do we balance human connection with function—or, perhaps more accurately, flexibility—that comes with hybrid work? We sat down with Betsy Bula, all-remote evangelist at GitLab, to discuss why hybrid work can be one of the most difficult working arrangements, and to uncover tips on how best to make the transition successful.

Recognize that a hybrid policy is the hardest.

While few companies plan to require all workers back in the office five days per week, and few are ready to continue a fully remote model forever, hybrid is actually the toughest model to balance. Bula shares that hybrid work is that in-between zone that often times blurs the lines and rules of traditional office decorum. It is very easy to prioritize those in the office—to give them more senior leadership exposure, allow them more opportunities for mentorship, and think of them first when you’re looking to handle an impromptu job request.

As she explains, “Hybrid work takes more intentionality to do it well. You must realize that you are responsible for managing different employee experiences, while being cognizant to avoid a two-tier environment where people in the office are considered a different class than people working remote.”

So, to avoid this uneven playing field, Bula shares that asynchronous communication is key to success.

Leveraging asynchronous communication is key.

In telecommunications, asynchronous communication refers to transmitting data intermittently, instead of continuously. Usually, this takes place without the use of an external clock signal. Transitioning that logic to the working world, we liken the external clock signal to the ability to get information from anywhere. In a synchronous-communication work model, a lot of emphasis is placed on working in the same place at the same time. Team members are given information in a team meeting, and then they all break away to do their work.

But in an asynchronous-communication work model, all direction is properly documented so workers can accomplish tasks wherever they are, whenever they are there. In GitLab’s 2021 Remote Work Playbook, it explains asynchronous communication like this: “In a world dictated by calendars and schedules, people are used to working synchronously—meaning that they need to be in the same place (either physically or virtually) at the same time. Another word for synchronous work: ‘meetings.’ Asynchronous communication is the art of eliminating meetings and synchronous work, making it possible to get work done on a flexible schedule.”

And although asynchronous communication allows distributed teams to hand projects off across time zones—a distinct competitive advantage—and reduces disconnects and frustrations, it also takes a lot of intentionality to do so.

Bula explains that it’s important to “try to focus on how work will get done and how your team will work together. When doing so, try to remove the location from the equation as you are thinking through that. That way you will naturally build practices that can be used no matter where your work is getting done on any given day.”

Intentionally define your culture.

Our industry does a great job of defining culture through physical space, but do we ever document our own business culture? According to Bula, combining documentation with intentionality is crucial to a successful approach. She agrees with Wagner that the office is a great place for bringing people together and speaks about the value of a project kickoff or other team bonding experience that unites everyone. Then, when the work is transitioned to a hybrid team, these steps from GitLab can help make it successful:

1. Define a culture that supports equality between remote and in-person work. One of the best ways to do this is to have senior management experience working in the remote model. Do they have communication barriers? What documentation isn’t clear? Are there any access issues?

2. Don’t try to replicate an in-person experience remotely. There are some things that just can’t be done remotely. Hosting meeting after meeting over Zoom is a recipe for Zoom fatigue. Instead, try to be strategic about meetings—if they are needed for hands-on, tactical teamwork, consider coming in to the office. If not, ask yourself if the meeting is really necessary.

3. Place an emphasis on team building. Even teams working 100 percent remotely need to come together to foster team camaraderie. GitLab suggests planning events such as coworking excursions, setting a travel budget for team members to visit one another, and even hosting local coworking days.

The GitLab playbook offers more helpful suggestions. After all, at the end of the day, Bula reminds us that the past year and a half of remote work, while mostly successful, hasn’t been a true representation of authentic hybrid work.

She concludes, “What a lot of people thought they experienced as remote work was really forced working from home due to a global pandemic. Companies that weren’t already working remotely had to transition to a remote work strategy overnight. And while society did an amazing job of adapting, the intentionality and process that takes time to develop wasn’t there. So, as leaders determine what the future of work looks like for their teams, the key to success will be creating, documenting, and iterating on these practices to determine what works best for their organization.”

Source:-https://devops.com/ GrammaTech announced today it has partnered with GitLab to integrate its GrammaTech CodeSonar static application security testing (SAST) tools […]

Source:-https://devops.com/

GrammaTech announced today it has partnered with GitLab to integrate its GrammaTech CodeSonar static application security testing (SAST) tools with the GitLab Ultimate DevSecOps platform.

Vince Arneja, chief product officer at GrammaTech, said integration with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) platforms such as GitLab is critical because it enables security scans to run automatically any time code is merged. That capability reduces the amount of code that is scanned at any one time, Arneja said.

GrammaTech is partnering with multiple CI/CD platforms and integrated development environment (IDE) providers to make it simpler to create multiple points for scanning code during the application development process, Arneja noted.

GitLab, meanwhile, is providing its own tools for analyzing artifacts as they move through the software development life cycle. The GrammaTech tools, available via the highest tier level made available by GitLab, analyze code at a deeper level, said Arneja.

Ultimately, the goal is to enable developers to discover security flaws as early as possible in the application development life cycle. The later those flaws are discovered, the more expensive they become to fix, Arneja said.

Developers, naturally, tend to postpone security scans as they race to meet an application deadline. That practice creates issues; the more code there is to analyze, the longer such scans take. It’s generally more efficient to scan smaller amounts of code more frequently. Otherwise, developers can become overwhelmed by the number of security bug fixes that need to be addressed at the back end of the application development process. Automating security scans allows an organization to move toward embracing DevSecOps best practices in a way that doesn’t rely on a developer remembering to initiate a scan.

Most developers are not deliberately ignoring security issues – it’s just that the existing, manual processes for discovering those flaws is inefficient.

Automated scans also provide the added benefit of simplifying discovery of common security flaws long before a code review, creating more time to address significantly more complex issues.

Application development teams are also under pressure to reduce the total number of bugs that need to be fixed after an application is deployed. As the number of applications being deployed steadily increases, developers can find themselves spending more time fixing bugs than writing new application code.

Most organizations are not very far along in their journey toward embracing DevSecOps. However, as it becomes easier to integrate a variety of scanning tools within DevOps workflows, the number of organizations moving up the DevSecOps maturity curve should increase. In the wake of some recent, high-profile attacks on software supply chains, the sense of urgency surrounding the adoption of DevSecOps best processes has undoubtedly increased.

In the longer term, there may soon come a day when security is viewed as just one of many quality assurance gates that code needs to pass through before it’s allowed to be promoted. In the meantime, an ounce of cybersecurity prevention at the front end of any application development is most certainly going to be worth more than several pounds of cybersecurity cure applied too late.

Source:-https://aithority.com/ Anchore, the leading providers of continuous security and compliance for containers, has announced an integration with GitLab, the complete […]

Source:-https://aithority.com/

Anchore, the leading providers of continuous security and compliance for containers, has announced an integration with GitLab, the complete DevSecOps platform, delivered as a single application. With this integration, organizations will be able to automate security and compliance checks from the early stages of the development cycle, speeding software development and reducing risks. Anchore also announces it has joined the GitLab partner program.

Anchore now integrates seamlessly with GitLab to simplify security and compliance workflows for developers and to enable DevSecOps practices. Anchore performs deep container image scanning that identifies vulnerabilities and surfaces a wide range of security and policy infractions, including vulnerabilities and other risks during development. Together, the Anchore and GitLab security integrations will:

Display vulnerability results of container scans directly in GitLab security dashboards
Surface these findings in merge requests that identify changes needed to remediate issues
Enable updating of merge requests with a package version to resolve vulnerabilities
Seamlessly manage the risk profile in one place through GitLab’s Risk Management Framework (RMF), reducing the friction of typical software security scanning

Digital transformation has changed software development practices as organizations seek to deliver applications more quickly and update them more frequently. This shift, combined with increasing cybersecurity threats, requires developers to implement security and compliance checks throughout the DevSecOps life cycle. The integration between Anchore and GitLab helps to automate these DevSecOps best practices for enterprises, government agencies, and open source communities,” said Saïd Ziouani, Anchore CEO and Cofounder.

“Strengthening the software development security and compliance postures of enterprises and public sector organizations is paramount to the missions of both GitLab and Anchore. We are pleased to partner through this integration to help our joint customers to increase their speed to mission delivery and to reduce the risks associated with software development,” said GitLab Vice-President of Global Channels, Michelle Hodges.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) uses both Anchore and GitLab as part of their Platform One Initiative to speed the development of secure and compliant software. Anchore is used to develop hardened containers for Iron Bank (DoD’s software repository for containers) based on DoD best practices.

“Today, more than ever before, security is the most essential aspect of software development for government and critical infrastructure—and is the core of the DoD DevSecOps Initiative and Platform One. Now developers have the ability to push validated code into production on an ongoing basis, resulting in shorter development cycles, less debugging, and more rapid feature development,” said Major Robert Slaughter, Director of DoD Platform One.

Source:-https://devclass.com GitLab 13.6 has landed, putting automation and visibility at the centre of the repo management and DevOps system’s latest […]

Source:-https://devclass.com

GitLab 13.6 has landed, putting automation and visibility at the centre of the repo management and DevOps system’s latest release. And with the season of giving drawing closer, the team decided to move the dependency proxy and tracing component into the core of the project, making them free to use for all.

Amongst the features, the new version comes with code quality severity ratings in both the full quality report and the merge request widget, which should help maintainers, reviewers and the like to decide which issues to tackle before merging new code additions. Another enhancement for improved overview is the sorting component in the Releases UI, which finally allows users to sort releases by date and name.

With regard to the infrastructural elements, GitLab 13.6 now allows group owners to add integrations to a group, which are then inherited by the associated projects. In earlier versions this could only be done on an instance level. Developers have gained the option of using the toggle of a feature flag as a trigger for pipeline runs as there are webhooks for that.

For a change, security wasn’t among the big drivers for this release, however, starting with GitLab 13.6, admin approval is by default required for all new user registration on a new instance.

On tiers premium/silver and ultimate/gold, code coverage has been reworked so that teams can select specific projects in a group and see their coverage values directly without having to download and manually check files. GitLab has also made its first step towards a load balancer implementation by adding a way of configuring NGINX annotations for custom behaviour.

Ultimate and gold subscribers no longer have to dig their way through pipeline lists to find information on the last completed default pipeline run, as it is now displayed on their project security dashboard.

The GitLab team has also been busy improving testing options for the top tiers, making GitLab 13.6, for example, the first version of the software to let users define and view test cases. The functionality is scheduled to be followed by tools for tracking test histories across deployment targets and overall quality management.

Additional top tier augmentations in this release include human-readable fuzz testing results to help devs get to the source of a crash faster, and the integration of coverage-guided fuzz testing results into the merge request widget. Under the hood is also a new engine for Java coverage guided fuzz testing which can be used by adding –engine javafuzz to a pipeline file.

Meanwhile, teams on ultimate/gold that are working with postman collections have gained the capability to use those for API fuzz testing by adding the collections to a repository and noting their location in the .gitlab-ci.yml file for the fuzz engine to reference. More details can be found in the GitLab release announcement.

Source:-https://about.gitlab.com

At GitLab, we are focused on improving developer productivity and satisfaction. And GitLab 13.6 has all the right ingredients to help you achieve all that and more! We hope that you find these top features, and the 60+ new features and improvements packed in this release, useful.

Improved ease of use and automation for efficiency
To make it easy for you to get started with GitLab CI/CD with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Auto DevOps has now been extended to support AWS, so you can now Auto-Deploy to Amazon EC2 using Auto DevOps without using Kubernetes (as previously required by Auto DevOps).

Docker Hub has enforced rate limits on docker pull requests. We have mitigated the impact for our SaaS and self-hosted users and have shared ways to monitor the limits with Prometheus in your environments. We want all our users to stay safe with their CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes clusters. We are moving the Dependency Proxy to Core available for everyone.

Listening to the community’s feedback to have a more descriptive default branch, Group owners now have more flexibility in configuring a custom default initial branch name for new repositories as opposed to the master branch. Speaking of defaults, the Static Site Editor can use a default merge request template across a project, reducing the need to navigate to the merge request after submission to update the description.

Improved visibility for faster decision making
You cannot fix what you cannot find. With 13.6, we’ve made improvements to several dashboards and reports to aid you with faster decision making.

With the code quality severity included within the merge request and the Full Code Quality Report, you can now quickly determine which code quality violations are critical to resolve before merging. Thanks for the community contribution with Code Quality Report, Vicken Simonian!

We’ve made updates to the Project Security Dashboard to include the results of the latest run pipeline security scan and also a dynamic vulnerability trend chart to help you stay on top of the real time and historical vulnerability trends. We’ve also added the fuzz testing results in the merge request along with the other security results and improved the readability of this report by adding the source file name and line number to help you quickly find the exact crash location and fix it.

GitLab Self Managed Administrators can now see their organization’s usage trends for popular features such as users, projects, groups, issues, and pipelines over the last 12 months.

Improved extensibility for a seamless workflow
We aim to play well with other popular tools you may be using in your environment so that you have a seamless experience, even when you use only a few parts of GitLab. With 13.6, to enable easy access and collaboration from within VS Code, we’ve improved our extension with VS Code to insert Snippets, view and comment on merge requests and issues directly from VS Code rather than switching to the GitLab interface.

GitLab integrations can now be configured at a group level in addition to instance and project level – helping group owners manage integrations with ease.To enable you to grow beyond the 10GB per project storage limit, we recently introduced an add-on to purchase additional storage for your group or personal name space. In addition to Dependency Proxy, we’ve also moved Tracing to Core as part of this release.

These are just a few highlights from the many new features and performance improvements described below. If you’d like to preview what’s coming in next month’s release, check out our Upcoming Releases page as well as our 13.7 release kick off video series where the Product Managers highlight key features coming in the next release.

Source:-https://siliconangle.com Mattermost Inc., provider of an open-source collaboration platform, today announced the launch of Mattermost Cloud, a new software-as-a-service collaboration […]

Source:-https://siliconangle.com

Mattermost Inc., provider of an open-source collaboration platform, today announced the launch of Mattermost Cloud, a new software-as-a-service collaboration system designed for DevOps teams and privacy-conscious enterprises.

Using Mattermost Cloud, DevOps teams and developers will be able to orchestrate cross-team workflows with pre-built playbooks and integrations with top-tier developer tools.

The service also offers privacy-conscious enterprises deployment options for private cloud infrastructures on secure topologies using enterprise-grade and strict data residency capabilities.

According to the company, developers and DevOps teams have unique real-time collaboration needs that may not be met by current collaboration platforms. The orchestration of time-sensitive developer workflows for DevOps may not always be best served by support-styled platforms such as Jira, PagerDuty, ZenDesk, Office 365 and others.

DevOps and developers need to collaborate on code, do code reviews, commit to standups without having to switch back and forth across between multiple applications, a process known as context switching. Developers also want to automate bidirectional flow of information between their messaging platform and development tools of choice (such as GitLab, Jira) depending on who is using what.

“With Mattermost Cloud, we now offer our trusted Mattermost self-managed collaboration platform as a SaaS offering that meets the requirements of privacy-conscious enterprises,” said Chandar Venkataraman, chief product officer at Mattermost.

“High-performance development teams have put Mattermost at the heart of their daily operations to increase their efficiency,” Venkataraman added. “As a DevOps command center, Mattermost brings development teams, developer tools, and automation together to orchestrate workflows at every stage of the DevOps lifecycle.”

Mattermost Cloud acts as the backbone of the DevOps team by becoming the command center and a single pane of glass to orchestrate cross-team developer workflows with high-visibility into developer activity. It will help developers centralize all of their activities with incident management, developer tool plugins and a custom playbook.

With incident management, users can declare incidents, be guided to complete tasks organized in stages, track incident progress and resolve incidents. Mattermost thus enables DevOps teams to collaborate throughout the incident lifecycle from triage and investigation, finally resolution and autopsy — involving the entire team and enabling whatever depth is needed for users to understand their roles to get the job done.

With plugins, users can receive a wide array of specialized integrations with common developer tools used to develop, monitor and maintain software, including Jira, Opsgenie, PagerDuty, GitLab, GitHub and Jenkins. They’re often used by other segments of enterprise organizations to connect to DevOps teams in order to operate smoothly.

Finally, with custom playbooks, developers can create workflows comprised of tasks that use automated commands to integrate with any developer tools and applications. These custom playbooks then act as templates that outline procedures and guide the team through any type of events, such as building a specific type of application, a specific prototype for a user interface element, an application programming interface design or any other developer need that might arise in the role of DevOps.

“As a cybersecurity solutions provider, our ability to effectively respond and manage incidents is critical to earning and keeping our customers’ trust,” said William Forrester, development and security operations manager at Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. “Mattermost plays an integral part in our developer toolset. Not only does it enable great communication and teamwork, its many integration options and the new Incident Management capability have also allowed us to greatly increase our productivity and organization.”

Mattermost Cloud is currently available in two editions: Mattermost Cloud Professional and Mattermost Cloud Enterprise. The Professional edition includes the full set of collaboration and DevOps features and is generally available today. The Enterprise edition offers all of the features of the former with a high-trust deployment option, including single-tenant cloud infrastructure, enterprise-grade secure network topology and strict data residency options available in beta.

Source:-https://devclass.com

GitLab has released its scheduled monthly security updates versions 13.5.2, 13.4.5, and 13.3.9 for GitLab Community Edition (CE) and Enterprise Edition (EE). These contain multiple security fixes for many GitLab components, most reported by users through GitLab’s HackerOne bug bounty system.

Among the security issues identified and fixed are a couple of path traversal vulnerabilities uncovered by users. These security flaws let attackers create malformed paths and save packages in arbitrary locations on the server file system.

GitLab’s own team discovered that the internal Kubernetes agent’s API had a vulnerability that gave unauthorised access to private projects. The team also discovered a flaw in the Terraform API that exposed the object storage signed URL on deletion, meaning a malicious project maintainer could overwrite the Terraform state, bypassing audit and other business controls.
Remediation

Stored-XSS in error message of build-dependencies
A stored XSS in CI Job Log has been discovered in GitLab CE/EE 12.4 and above. This issue has been mitigated in the latest release and was assigned CVE-2020-13340.

“Thanks yvvdwf for reporting this vulnerability through our HackerOne bug bounty program,” said Gitlab.

Remediation
We strongly recommend that all installations running an affected version above are upgraded to the latest version as soon as possible.

Other problems found and fixed included the undue persistence of one time use git credentials when importing repos via URL in Gitaly, a registry name check process that could be persuaded to use undue CPU and thus form a denial of service attack point, private group information leaking when the group was made public, catastrophic regex backtracking in Advanced Search, and a host of other leaks, holes and authorization infelicities.

Source:-https://devclass.com

It’s that time of the month again. Open source collaboration enabler Gitlab has pushed out 13.5, the latest update to the popular multitool environment for devops integration/management/code-sharing/whatever the user base has glommed in since last time.

Gitlab 13.5 now includes SAST – static application security testing – for iOS and Android code, alongside the integration of the MobSF framework. Gitllab notes in its blog post describing the release that this sits alongside the existing fuzz testing for Swift and Java, with the intention of enabling testing for more people earlier on in the pipeline.

Another focus this month is collaboration, with the introduction of Group Wikis to share ad hoc and structured project information across developer teams. Gitlab claimed this was the most upvoted feature request in the history of the product, which is easy to believe when you consider the popularity of the publications amongst the devops crowd.

Also added is Kubernetes cluster cost monitoring, based on Kubecost, to watch out for expensively multiplying entities; Gitpod Workspace integration for creating, managing and deploying prebuilt development environments; a timeline view for discussions; multi-file shareable Snippets; enhanced binary object management at deployment; and a host of other minor additions and maturations.

Developer reaction has been generally enthusiastic, especially towards the SAST integration for mobile apps and the improved support for app deployment. Twitter user and systems architect @rpadovani93 noted that: “With release 13.5, @gitlab will be able to host Generic Packages as artifacts. Combined with their CI/CD, you can finally build whatever you want and automatically release it. Lovely.”

Source:-https://www.prnewswire.com WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In order to provide rapid innovation in the areas of DevSecOps and Agile […]

Source:-https://www.prnewswire.com

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In order to provide rapid innovation in the areas of DevSecOps and Agile software engineering, Hunter Strategy, a premier DevSecOps consultancy, has partnered with leading single application for the entire DevSecOps lifecycle provider, GitLab. Hunter Strategy joins the GitLab Partner Program as a reseller and strategic consulting partner to address government clients’ diverse DevSecOps implementation needs. Hunter will be migrating its DevSecOps acceleration framework, HunterOps, to be fully implemented on the GitLab Enterprise platform. Rather than managing multiple threads across disparate tools, GitLab helps software development teams collaborate and streamline from a single conversation on a single application. GitLab provides teams a single data store, one user interface and one permission model across the DevOps lifecycle, enabling government IT teams to collaborate, reduce cycle time, and focus exclusively on building software that empowers their missions.

“GitLab is one of the rare companies that builds quality software and manages to be fundamentally different in an overcrowded marketplace,” said Matthew Triner, Founder of Hunter Strategy. “As federal enterprises start to move to DevSecOps, it will only make sense that they look to streamline their tool bloat with best in breed suites like GitLab.”

“GitLab is excited to build a strategic relationship with Hunter Strategy,” said Michelle Hodges, vice president of global channels at GitLab. “Hunter Strategy’s expertise across DevSecOps and software factory engineering makes them a great fit for the GitLab Partner Program and enables us to work together to create high-value services for mutual customers who need to deliver secure applications quickly.”

About HunterOps

HunterOps is Hunter Strategy’s DevSecOps acceleration framework. Built upon a set of secure modular containers from known repositories such as DoD’s Iron Bank. HunterOps is a quick start framework which enables our customers to set up secure Software Factory Environments within a matter of hours or days to rapidly begin DevSecOps transformation.

About Hunter Strategy

Headquartered in Washington DC’s Cathedral Heights neighborhood, Hunter Strategy is a Small Business Administration (SBA) HUBZone certified small business that offers strategic DevSecOps solutions to federal agencies, Fortune 1000 companies, and emerging technology firms. In addition to DevSecOps, Hunter Strategy’s core capabilities include cloud software factory engineering, cyber risk management, and agile software development.
